Hi

I have a new dilema, a friend is off to the states next week, and am thinking of asking him to pick me up an IPOD. My dilema is do I go Ipod (20Gb) or Mini.

The price difference is quite minimal, I will use it mainly down the gym and in the car, but also may use it to store data when I on the move.

I am also considering, if I do go Ipod route whether the U2 (black Ipod) is worth the extra, about £30 extra I think.

Regards

I'd go normal iPod - 20gb. Mini is not that much smaller yet a lot less HD space.

U2 one - pure personal taste.

I think that is the way that I am guna go. I do like the U2...well I like the fact that its black. But since I will probably buy a case..... Dunhill do some nice ones... then it wouldnt be seen.

20Gb standard iPod is good .... you'll be glad of the extra storage.

Hi,
I have a mini and its ok, but I dont rate the sound, and I find the EQ settings are unusable. I guy I know bought a 60gb and said the only downside to having lots of space is the time it takes you to scroll through to find a track that you want, when its full... I have found that I hardly use it. As I am normally in the car, or in an office where I have my laptop with realplayer on it. The one bonus about the 4/20/40 ipod is that it works like a USB hard disk so I tend to find if I need to bull down ISO images I can pop into my customer and suck them down from there and put them on the Ipod :D I got solaris 10 X68 and sparc all ten disks in about 2 hours last week :D

Regards.

Peter, I agree with you on the sound quality issue. I've never been that impressed with the outputs, even when using mega-expensive headphones. Got used to it ove time though.

The earlier one the NW-HD1, i belive used ATRAK but the new one uses ATRAK or MP3.

ipod v ipod

I ended up with a 40Gb Photo - didn't need the extra capacity or photos, however the screen is way better than the B&W one + you can add album art to each song.

A couple of people have mentioned that the sound quality on the mini is not that great. How is it on the full size IPOD?

I can tell you the SOny is amazing... I have an ipod as i got impatient waiting for the HD3. But its really worth it, my friend has one and it really does sound/look good.. and its a lot more exclusive...
The only downside is the software is not as easy to use as itunes... but still good...

I would get the sony....

Picked up a Creative Labs Mini Zen over the weekend. Small, 5GB, built in radio, voice recorder and disk can be formatted to hold data as well. Sound is excellent, especially if you use the money you save on an iPod to buy some Shure Ec2 or Ec3 musicians in-ear headphone thingys. You fit them into your lug holes with expanding foam or finned plastic sleeves so they work exactly like earplugs.

The Zen can cope with Windows Media player so existing playlists can go directly onto it from PC.

Downsides are that the touch sensitive controls take a lttle bit of getting used to and battery life is limited. 4 1/2 hours seems to be the limit (not the 12 advertised) but then the battery is tiny. However, unlike the iPod you can get extra Lithium Ion batteries which are a doddle to change.

I was a bit doubtful but so far very pleased

The Creative units are in fact very good, and are doing very well. Good choice!
