I just wondered if the Mercedes Pentosin ABC hydraulic oil harms paint like say brake fluid does?

Similarly does brake cleaner wreck paintwork?

Who let Callum in :D:D:D:wallbash::wallbash:

Got anything constructive to add?

Lighten up chap 'twas a joke, hence the :D

Brake cleaner shouldn't damage your paintwork. What exactly are you intending on using it for?

Sorry not in a good mood.
Had my car booked in at a local Indy tomorrow, but despite previously agreeing to do a labour only job, they just cancelled the appointment saying it doesn't suit their business model.
So I am landed with a nice new £847 strut, and ABC oil dripping on the floor!
Somehow need to find out how one fits them. Fundamentally it looks easy except the later post 2008 ones , everything is just a bit different. And the ABC is very different.

Hmmm I dont alpreciate businesses, that dont do, what they say they will do.

Mind you maybe I was lucky, ... what happens if they screw up? Down to the customer I guess!

The brake cleaner is for cleaning up the calipers, car was by the seaside for 3 years. Blimey my 2005 SL500s brakes look new in comparison to this 2009. So I thought I would paint them that gunmetal grey.
Hence the question about the brake cleaner ref overspray if a gust of wind blows.

I have a vague memory if getting that stuff on some plastic once, and it went all sticky but cant remember if it was actual brake cleaner.

Don't worry about a bit of 'overspray', just give it a quick wipe if you are concerned.

A lot of garages won't do 'labour only' work (My local ATS would fit a tyre but would not fit a Track Rod End supplied by MB) due to who is liable if something goes wrong.

I can see your frustration if they agreed at first but then disagreed

Thanks
I absolutely have no problem with anyones business model, but if I say I will,do something I do it, and likewise expect the reverse.

The irritating thing is its a non-stock item part, so is only returnable, if its faulty, or they advised me incorrectly. And knowing this I would not even ask.
I didnt really want to do this work on what for me is an expensive part, plugging into for me an extremely expensive ABC system.

To be honest, I wouldn't trust any work on ABC to someone who isn't familiar with it anyway. You're probably better taking it to one of the specialists recommended on this forum.

I agree. Ian at Star Motors, Caversham is probably the tech worth ringing to see if he'll do the job.
