hi all

Silly question. If you change to a particularly different set of wheels with Airmatic, do you need to "tell" the car via Star that its now on different size/offset rims?

I'll be having my balance and 4 wheel tracking checked in a couple of days and just want to do things in a logical order. We fitted some 18" AMG SClass rims to the s430 instead of the 16" standard 7 spokes and i have to say the ride quality is worse than i expected, but then i'm not 100% about what it was like beforehand, being new-ish to the car...

First of all a health warning. I'm not a MB expert, just some bloke on t'internet.:D

When you change wheels, you need to make sure the rolling radius is unchanged (225/55 tyres on 16inch rims have the same rolling radius as 245/45 tyres on 17inch rims), otherwise your speedo will be affected. If you do that then given that the rolling radius is the same there will be no affect on airmatic.

I have an S320 on 18" alloys with tyre size 245/45/18. I know the tyre size aspect and width will depend on the wheel width, but just an indication. The ride is very smooth with the exception, probably because of the severe winter, the potholes. The deep one do give a bit of a thump. Other than that, as DiesleE says apart from if the rolling circumphrence is incorrect I am not sure if the cruise will work.
