I was out and about on the M25 last night. There were umpteen roadworks and speed restrictions. I was coming into a section that had the inside lane closed and the speed limit had been 60, 50 & finally 40.

I'm sitting at about 45 when I see a whole lot of traffic coming up behind me at considerably faster than 40.

All overtook me but white van man shot up my inside in the closed off lane as though I wasn't moving.

I've seen cars rear ended because they were travelling at the speed limit.

What speed would you guys do in road works late at night?

I suppose that for many it would depend on the presence of speed cameras.

Well the inside lane was obviously not closed as white van man managed to undertake you there! Could you not have remained in the nearside lane at 40mph until you needed to filter into the next lane?

    Not to your licence.
Google ''Sir Ian Wood's son Gareth Wood banned for speeding in temporary speed restricted zone''.

Red crosses above the lane on the last two gantries I passed and the start of the cones about 200 yards away.

Were they enforceable speed limit signs or recommended speeds?
Often you see recommended speed warnings left on long after a particular hazard has been cleared.

The M25 variable cameras didn't work for years but there are plenty of reports of people being done by them now.

The van driver was a bit of a ****, but there are plenty more like him. You either join in, or let them get on with it. What you actually do is up to you, but lewyboy hit the nail on the head in post #2.
