Just finished watching last sundays Top Gear on the BBC i-player and I have to say that it was utter ****e!

Now I no and you all no that every gag every accident and every agument etc is scripted and at times obvious, however this current series far is more predictable and tedious than ever IMO

It was the same story in the last series dispite the odd brilliant and jaw dropping moment like for example when Michael Schumacher came on as the stig.........but over all the whole series was disappointing

Oh and ive also just watched Richard Hammond's Top Gear Uncovered DVD................which im kinda wish that it was made of paper so that I could wipe my **** on it!

Any other opinions on Top Gear??

i agree.. its become very dry and lost the plot quite frankly.. top gear of the 90's was very exciting i thought.. this track and star in your car is abit of ****** to be honest!

I agree and agree. I no longer watch the show. It is no longer a show for serious vehicle comparrisons of the cars that we can afford,(don't mind the odd inclusion of the exotic as it show what can really be done if money is no object.)
Do as I do, change the channel, way past use by date

The star in the car bit has to go, I lose interest at that point.
It does still have some hilarious moments though, not all bad.

I agree also, more often than not if I'm watching on Sky+ behind the live transmission I'll FWD straight past the star in the car part. Generally speaking the clearly scripted parts in the main story are getting very tiredsome yes.

I kind of agree, it is a bit cringe-worthy at times, but still best around and when they are on form it is brilliant.

I think they are all a bit tired as they don't stop with their world tours that they do and there is only so many times you can do repeat shows before it starts to get a bit tedious, that kind of relentless selling of yourself has to have an effect on the TV show.

Let's see... 7 million viewers. Clarkson and co are just revelling in the fact that they are unsackable (until and unless the BBC realises that being ratings-driven isn't really public service broadcasting).

It used to be the only program that I would religiously watch. Sunday night 8.00pm even if friends were round was Top Gear time, this series I have even found myself doing other things during the program kind of half watching it.
I will still watch it because there are some genuinely funny bits, but it is not what it used to be:mad:

I still love it but agree sometimes the obvious scripted parts are cringey....But i dont mind the exotic car stuff, its entertaining and thats the point of the show. Nothing makes me laugh repeatedly as much as hammond driving into may's cars all the time......!! Its no barometer but i travel to foreign countries every week and by far the most thing people talk to me about is how brilliant top gear is, i was in Israel last week and its all they wanted to talk about!!

I'm in two minds on this, I still watch every episode but it's to obvious whats gonna happen. I also do other things whilst it's on and don't pause the program.
I quite liked 5th gear! :-)

I too get some laughs out of the program despite some of the predictability, but my wife even watches it along with the kids, so I suppose it is bringing some car related entertainment to the masses.

The factual elements of 5th Gear I enjoy, but once Tiff Needell gets behind the wheel, I start yawning, as I know it's gonna be 5 minutes of lets see how fast this thing goes around a track and see if I can s*ag the engine up as well.

I much prefer the quirkier car programs such as wheeler dealers, classic car (something or other) - Discovery channels. There's one program where they try to find a suitable car for a specific budget, and it involves test drives etc, I enjoy that as at least they are factual about the cars from a "normal" drivers perspective.

Quite true as are all the other comments agreeing with you, but.. it long ceased to be a motoring show, all three presenters are so type cast each word could be scripted by most of the audience however it's still good fun to watch, in fact one of the few things BBC is involved in that I bother with.
At a slight tangent I think James May's Toy Stories is great fun also.

I'd miss it if it wasn't on...

It is predictable and a bit scripted but still good entertainment. They could do with revamping the formula a bit with some new features though.

Wheeler Dealers has to be the best 'proper' car show around at the moment though

Sadly well past it's "sell by" date. :( A once highly entertaining programme has become too formulaic and almost a parody of itself. You sense the presenters are "going through the motions" with little enthusiasm, the production team has run out of new ideas but because it makes money and retains a loyal following they continue to churn out what has become a mediocre "product". :o It would be sad to see it go but it really needs an injection of imaginative ideas to revitalise it or it will continue its inevitable decline and loss of its core audience.:dk:

It's just thoughtless lad's TV.....I don't watch much TV myself, but if it's on and the kids are watching it I will normally sit down for a few minutes with a beer. To be honest though I don't really think of it as a "car" program any more - just light entertainment.

Quite agree. Sack these second rate overpaid presenters. What I wouldn't give for a serious car programme with proper new and used car tests, plus auto news. But like everything these days, dumbed down to the lowest common denominator!

I thought the Botswana special wasn't dumbed down. The recent Romania segment showed a side of Europe (especially the history) that most people are ignorant of.

The bits in the studio and their own track are formulaic. It is however a formula that earns millions in syndication worldwide.
