Hi there,

I’m new here, first post and can someone give me a sense check please? It is a 2006 CLK 2.1 diesel.

Every now and again when I try to start the lights on the dash flick off and there is no cranking and no start. Sometimes, the lights flick off momentarily then back on and the engine initially starts, then cuts off after a few seconds. Taking the key out and putting it back always fixes it and it then starts and runs normally. The problem is very intermittent, it often goes days without any problem at all.

Does this sound like a failing EIS, or do they tend to just either work or not?

Problem 2 is that I don’t know the radio code; or if it even has one. I’m imagining that I’ll disconnect the battery to pull the EIS to send out for testing and lose the radio! Can I get the code from somewhere?

many thanks in advance : )

Welcome to the Forum!

Have you tried another key?

Radio should not need a code.

I should have said ........... I’ve only got one key. I Guess that is the first place to start

I had a similar issue with a W203 that went away when I changed keys but that doesn't rule out the EIS being the cause of your problems unfortunate.

Have you a good MB specialist that can diagnose the problem?

It really needs to go on Star.
