Hello everyone

how are you doing! Hope your fine during these changed times of C-19

my question is regarding the 722.9 transmission fluid.

I needed a new transmission so obtained a used one, and dropped her off at the garage for fitment, I supplied my own transmission fluid.

they fitted the new tranny, but didn’t put my transmission fluid in it, saying that its done at the end.

i thought it was easier to drain the tranny when its outside the car no?

is it possible to drain the entire system 10 QT’s with it fitted to the car?

thanks all

Can I ask is the garage a MB indy or do they have a star diagnostic equipment, because the electro plate in your new second hand box needs to be paired with your car,it is not just bolt another box on and fill with ATF ,even that has to be run until it is at a certain temp and then checked for oil level.

As above. And if they changed the tranny box but kept the old TCU, then they will need to carry-out adaptations, to prevent premature clutch wear. Either way they'll need to have STAR.

It makes no difference if the transmission is drained with the box on or off the car.

Filling-up needs to be done with the transmission fitted to the car.

Did you make sure yo provided them with the correct-spec?

Thanks for the replies, this is a general garage but has a great reputation, although not MB specialists I will check if they have STAR and know about the pairing. Thanks for that. I appreciate the responses added some depth.

Gordywalker? Just wondering how it worked out for you, and what if any problems you encountered?

Hi, it didn’t turn out well sadly, the transmission was no good, however a second one came in and worked perfectly.
I never got to the bottom of correct procedure for putting the fluid in.

Sorry to hear how it ended for you Gordywalker. If you happened to be present during a change and flush, you would understand everything perfectly. Good Luck with your car for the future, they are a lovely car.
