Hi All ,
Just bought a 2008 Merc C200 auto sport , having drove the C220 I feel this C200 is much quicker or more responsive , I've read that the C200 is the same engine as the C220 but it's been detuned , how can I check if my C200 has been re-chipped
Cheers

In the first instance, quite a few diesel tuning boxes are ad-ons, so check the engine bay for any 'black boxes' (potentially with a switch or dial).

Not sure how you can find out if the ECU has been remapped though.

I think it's very difficult to tell, my Merc always felt quick most cars that tried it on disappeared in the rear view mirror.
I took it for a remap at MSL and they told me it already had one of there maps on it, after removing and opening the ECU, so I was disappointed and happy within thirty seconds.
I bought the car from Syther Leicester with FSH so you never know.

The engine block is very similar to the 220 and 250 but the c200cdi is single turbo whereas the c220 and c250 cdis are twin turbo and I think the injectors are also different. However it can still be chipped to give more power.

Unless they are different to the E class, the 220 is single turbo and the 250 is twin. Thats on the 2011- engines.

I was actually referring to the 2011 c class blue efficiency and still have the brochure.

But they do vary

If the engine is similar then I don't think they are detuned, maybe something other than engine is responsible for being detuned.

The C220 and C250 have twin turbos. One for the low end power and the other for the high end power. This is why power delivery is smoother than a traditional single turbo where power kicks in around 2,000 RPM. In effect, it is like having one continuous turbo boost from 800 RPM onwards.

I do believe that the C200 only has one turbo.

I would assume that because the C200, C220 and C250 all use the same engine, it would be possible at cost to change a C200 to a C220 or C250 simply by changing the additional components, and remapping the ECU, but I haven't heard of this being done.

I used to own a 2010 C220 which was part configured for BlueEfficiency, and while later C220's would hit 60mph in 8.2 seconds, mine was capable of hitting it in 7 seconds. It's amazing the difference a simple second can make to performance.

Thanks for all that , picking the car up later in the week so I might get advice from a Merc specialist but it's just for my curiosity .
From above comments re single or double turbo, I can say that there is an instant surge without any delay even when slight pressure on accelerator pedal.i didn't even try the kick down but was so surprised by the way the car drove, hope I'm as happy with it after a few months . Once I collect the car I will update you with any findings .

Cheers
Donald
