Is sending destinations to a 2012 E Class possible?

Mercedes E63
Hi

I have a 2012 pre facelift E63 with Comand NTG 4.5. I've recently had the Mercedes Me adaptor fitted and all seems to be connected up.

The Mercedes Me app on my iPhone says I can send destinations to my car by sharing it through the app, but when I send a destination to the app via Apple maps as I think Google maps doesn't support the function anymore, it says the destination has been sent to my car. However, when I get into my car I cannot find the destination anywhere.

Is such a function possible on my car, and if so how do I get it to work as it would be a pretty useful function for me.

Thanks.

Never managed to get this function to work.

This is the message I get when I try to retrieve the destination entry.

1. The Mercedes Me App connects ONLY to cars factory-fitted with the KOM module and the built-in Vodafone simcard, which was fitted to cars with the COMAND Online option as of (roughly) July 2013. So the OP's 2012 car will not have the KOM module and will not communicate with the Mercedes Me App.

2. The Mercedes Me *Adapter* App connects to the aftermarket Mercedes Me Adapter, which can be fitted to any model of MB with an OBDII socket. It does not have the functionality of sending a destination to the car however.

3. COMAND Online (NTG4.5/4.7) - supports connection to the Internet via the driver's mobile phone (using Bluetooth tethering). NTG4.5 works with Android phones but not with iPhone phones; NTG4.7 works with both. Originally, COMAND Online was able to receive both destinations and complete routes from Google Maps. This functionally was later removed and it is no longer available. You can, however, still send a destination (but not a route) from your PC to COMAND Online using Nokia's Here We Go (www.here.com) maps website. This however only works when using Here We Go on a PC via Interner browser, but it does not work from the Here We Go mobile phone App.

4. It is worth noting that option 3 abover has absolutely nothing to do with the Mercedes Me App or the Mercedes Me *Adapter*..... i.e., the functionally of sending destinations to the car from the Here We Go website is dependant only on the ability of COMAND Online to establish an Internet connection using the driver's mobile phone. In the OP's case, his 2012 car will be equipped with NTG4.5 that can only connect to the the Internet via an Android phone (but not via an iPhone).

5. Soooo.... get and Android phone with a data plan, make sure you enable Bluetooth tethering on the Android phone, connect COMAND Online to the Internet, and send a destination to the car from the Here We Go website. Works a charm on my car.

Sounds far more complicated than it needs to be.

Thank you for incredibly in-depth and helpful reply Mark, again much appreciated. I was actually thinking about trying out an Android phone when I replace my iPhone at some point, so added bonus that it will add functionality to my car!
