Hi guys,

I have this weird sound accompanied by lack of rpm and torque (like a low whistle) it’s not present at cold start till oil reaches working temperature, I have this since I bought it 3 years ago at the time I didn’t notice it nor pay attention as it was my first Viano om642.990 and 722.685.

Shortly after purchase during Mot the guy was unable to climb out of rollers after brake test there’s just no enough torque, further on I discovered that the van even won’t climb on average curb if trying from full stop, during attempt with acceleration pedal floored it just sits at 1100rpm warm or 1300 rpm after cold start, it’s very very sluggish when pulling off from full stop until it rolls and gains about 1600rpm then it literally launches😁 I know it’s not normal, during summer transmition constantly overheats and keeps burning oil often even pushing smoke via cables from transmition to tcu connector, connected to stars no codes, I presume if it’s torque converter on its way out there won’t be any codes for it 😁 since purchase I have done 50k. Miles and changed transmition oil 5 times ar first change some shaving were in pan, but not since.
My conclusion goes for tc issue, but not sure if the tc also caused slow start and climb issue, why it won’t go past 1100rpm to generate torque? Just sits in incline, maybe it just cannot generate enough oil pressure at above rpm, what and why limits the rpm, faulty tc, or something with valve body, maybe full Sonnax kit? Idk 🤷

Any advice please would help.
Regards igors

What were the shavings made of ? were they a brass colour , steel , aluminium ? Sounds like it's in limp mode . Clutch pack(s) could be worn out ,bad pressure pump , TC bad , shavings in the labyrinth stopping solenoids operating properly ?

Just to be clear . You have been driving like this for 3 years ? How many miles ?

The shavings where brass like colour, but haven’t been there for last 4 oil changes, at first year time to time it went in limp during shift 2-3 , but again it hasn’t happened since.
It’s certainly not in limp as when throttle at wot release brakes it slowly starts to roll till about 15-16 hundred rpm then it launches like rocket trough all gears, it’s the start and inclines, curbs where it can sit against with acceleration at wot and 1100rpm, I have tried another v6 Viano, when u hold brakes and accelerate it tries pull away reaching around 2k rpm, mine just sits at 1100 like limited?!?
Yes indeed I’ve been driving like this for past 3 years and accumulated 50k miles.

I can’t see anywhere if the van has been scanned for a fault code ?
