It is for me

I know others will have a different view but to me the 1970 280 SE Cabriolet is the best looking car Mercedes have built.
This one also seems to have CL500 running gear including the M113 V8, 5 speed auto, ABS, ASR etc. An old classic with all the modern technology.... Perfect.

If you prefer they have what appears to be

A Pagoda bodied SLK 320

If you go to the Mechatronik site it seems they will build you whatever you want. No mention of price though.

I remember reading somewhere that Mercedes heritage made these type of 1 offs for special orders if your pockets were deep enough.

I agree, the concept is pretty near perfect. Maybe I prefer the Pagoda though !!

Oh, perfect is just so hard to define

There are companies in Britain that will do the same thing, just dont ask how much...

A customer of my dads has an E type that has been 'modernised' .... was the best part of £200k

Similar to the work carried out by KWE engineering on old e-types and XJS/ XJ6's etc, take a classic loved shape and then make it practical & safe for modern motoring. Not cheap but certainly very very cheerfull.

The OP cabrio is lovely - great interior especially the gear knob :D

yum, thats lovely, modernising old classics is what me and me mates have been doing for years, it dont have to cost fortunes if you do it yourself, and we can achive a standard just as good usually for a fraction of the price.

Aston Martin do it for they're old cars as well, anything from standard restorations to completly re engineering them.

Wonderful.......can't see a lot of change from 100K there

And they say money doesnt bring happiness................

I would glady be miserable driving around in one of those all day.

That is one gorgeous car!

Goodness knows how much it would cost. A couple of months ago, my Dad tried to find out, but the phone number wasn't valid

That company was featured in Mercedes Enthuiast a long while back with a converted 300SL. I think it had an M104. Can anyone remember the issue and details of the car?
