is this W124 colour std?

Looks like crystal green thats been colour coded - not the best colour but not many around so a bit different in these days of everything being shades of silver.

Thats quite pretty in a way. It says in the advert its not a multivalve.
It's only just run-in!!

It could be a respray, as that year of 124 would normally have a different shade of cladding. It's not a million miles away from beryl blue, which would be listed as green in the log book, although it does look slightly off, which could be the camera.

The ad. states it's not the multivalve engine.

As ^ that color was optional on the 124s,I think Talbir`s estate is the same

Should it not be a 320 te at least with that year and registration number?
or was it old stock?

Well whatever it is it should have been facelifted on L plate

And the door cards look fabric when the rest of the car is MBtex Or leather

Like you say must have been a late registered one that was on the fourcourt, that the owner got for a discounted price.

yes i think it must be

Not sure if the colour is willow green ?

Would have thought it's willow green/thistle green, and yes, I also think the lower cladding should be a different colour. It's had early style leather seats installed, minus the door cards, though the leather's in good condition. I personally don't like the early-style leather seat pattern. Too many stripes; the later style give a much cleaner look.

It looks like Crystal green Metallic, code 256, to me. It is a genuine colour and the original version of W124 estate did run until 1993.

The cladding is the wrong colour having been painted to match the rest of the car. I don't know why people do this as it always makes any MB car of that age look " off" for some reason.

Were all facelifted 124s two tone, mine isn't and as I'll be looking at some body work very soon I'd like to know if I should be painting the cladding a different shade to get it back to original. I can only find one colour code under the bonnet.

I'm sure I have read somewhere that the cladding is the "flat" version of the metalworks gloss. Could be wrong though.

That may make sense, the bumpers in particular look a bit dull but still the same basic colour. Do you know if the matt paint is the same at the metalwork but with flat laquer or is a completely different paint?

When someone says "Thats a good question" it usually means you are going to get a crape answer. Good question Martyn! Someone will be along soon with a good answer for you.

I think that cladding in body colour was an option but very few had it. Most will have been done later. Personally I think the different colour cladding is all part of the character of the late 80s and early 90s mercedes. It is not just a matt version of the gloss e.g brilliant silver paint with atlas grey panels.

124

on the vin number would it bring up the original paint codes for a car ???
to referance the colours for trim & bodywork

I can only quote you an example. Brilliant Silver 744 [ metallic clearcoat] has Atlas Grey [matt metallic clearcoat] 7181 as the LP plastic trim colour. This is distinctly darker than the brilliant silver- however this difference in colour appears to vary markedly with different colour shades with some being almost the same. The key factor is probably the matt finish. What folks don't seem to get is the contrast in colour/finish is deliberate to signify/acknowledge the difference in materials used metal V laminated polyurethane. Painting the LP trim panels with the same paint used on the metal bodywork just makes them look like "painted" LP panels. :ban:
