How bad are values of 2nd hand cars effected by a new model launch? Any one have same case with the launch of the new class?

Thanks

Hello

An 07 e class would have already taken a big hit. The new one may well mean a slight extra hit but the new one is going to be a Lot more than an 07 model now.

All prices are poor at the moment I would rather save a fortune on an 07 model now than buy a new 09 / 10 model and lose several thousands driving off the forcourt.

If you intend to keep the 07 e-class for a few years doubt it makes much difference. If you have the money to buy a brand new E and take the hit then go for it.

What model you you have in mind?

Well I really want a CLS (06, 56) as just after christmas they had dropped a lot. But over the last 2 weeks they are starting to get more expensive and further from my price range. Or you settle for a high miler with low spec? I have looked and seen a E class E280 diesel sport with good spec (no command) near 2 years old about half the new price. Hence my problem. I not sure what you think but I think the CLS would hold their money better?
Cheers Ian

interesting to hear that prices have been moving up!

Hello Sean. Do you still have the AMG?
Yes seems like you have to be at the right place at the right time. I really don t want to pay over the odds.

2 things are supressing 211 (current car, to be replaced by 212) E prices

1. Credit crunch
2. The arrival of the 212.

Its a great time to be looking for those cars, its now fairly public knowledge that the 211 is being superceded in June/July so the cars value has been hit. You can hold out if you like but if you see one you like and want now, go for it, you live only once.

Not Seen you post in agees Ian , nice to see you back :)

Whatever you buy , make sure its a facelift car :) noticeably better.

The easiest way to tell is the wingmirrors on both the E and the CLS.

The prefacelift are flush againsed the door when extended out , the facelift ones are sticking out a little and pivot from the bottom when folding.

Any other significant differences?

No SBC brakes , nicer steering wheel. Redisigned front. Direct control on the steering. Some engines were upgraded. New keys with the shiney sides.

Lots and lots :)

Mine is pre facelift and I have a "bling" key. The biggest difference is the V shaped grill on the facelift car. Steering wheel and controls are nicer in facelift car but would miss SBC, its an engineering master piece and its a shame its gone.

The biggest difference is what you don't see. Much nicer to drive.

There is still HOLD function and drying function on the brakes. Just none of the farting noise from the SBC pump or the extra battery.

I find the farting noises quite comforting especially if the old lady is left at home. The sense of being alone is far less pronounced.

Do the V6 engines have the same torque as the Straight 6?

Do you mean a face lift W211 drives better than a pre-facelift? I don't see different parts on the two, why would they drive differently?

Hi Ian

Good to see you around again, I have just brought a W211 E500 albeit and earlier prefacelift car. The W211 is a very nice car, but personally I would try and go for the CLS.
The problem I find with the E-class is that there are so many about, a couple of times when I have been picking my wife up from work, I have had other people from her bank thinking I am a chauffeur.

The CLS on the other hand is a damn nice car and will look fresher for longer. If it wasnt for the need for 5 seats, I would have gone for the CLS.
