Hey guys,

I was using a service plan up to last year with my CLA45 as I was thinking about getting a C63, but well, things have changed a lot since then. (covid?) Merc has quoted me £900 for a service B on my car, basically it is just a oil change, brake fluid and spark plugs. What a joke! It will be the 4th service on my car, as it is reaching 4 years now, 34k miles.

I was reading a bit and found a few independent garages around London, and I was hoping someone could share some thoughts about their service quality and also if you have other recommendations? I'm fine to drive 1+ hour each way to get the car serviced at the right place.

The places I've found so far
  1. Keys Bexleyheath
  2. DDR Surrey
  3. Pestige Performance
  4. MSL, it seems they have something around London but I could not find their address
Any help would be much appreciated :)

Welcome.

My recommendation would be Terry Gates at Wayne Gates in Harrow:

If you want performance tuning, then MSL (didn't know they had a London branch), or talk to Olly Stoner at PCS in Horndean and see what they can offer:

Incidentally, why didn't renew the Service Care Plan?

Service B, Spark Plugs, and Brake Fluid at an indie will probably cost the same as a fixed-price dealer service on a Service Care Plan?

You also have AMF , Tonbridge , Kent .
Alex Crow , Stowmarket, Suffolk
Ian at Star Services, Reading
Phil at Welling Merx,Welling
Depends where you live in London ? Normally the further away from London you travel , the cheaper it gets

Why do so many people moan about the cost of having their toys serviced at a MB dealer?
Does no one research these costs before buying or is "see it, want it, have it"....

Should year 4 include air and pollen filters and possible the pano roof (if fitted)

Wait until the OP gets to year 5 with the ATF change...

Wayne Gates in Harrow has never had a bad review on this forum. That's where I'd be heading if you want to take the servicing away from the main dealers. I would take a look a getting another service plan myself.

FYI, these are the contact details for the London branch of MSL.

Prestige & MSL Performance
7 Coppen Road,
Dagenham,
Essex,
RM8 1HJ
020 8592 8849

Thanks I'll check them

I was meant to get a C63, but then I decided to quit my job, just before the epidemic. Then I completely forgot to get a service plan, again.

I'm in SE London, AMF seems the closest, thanks!

Because people don't like to pay inflated prices I guess? So far I can see, I can get the same service for perhaps half of the price from a quality garage, I'm just after the right one.

Prestige and MSL are the same company then?

So did MB tell you that it's too late to get a Service Care Plan to cover the next service? Is it overdue?

I didn't ask yet for a service plan, I was thinking about it but after reading here that you pay them to replace spark plugs but they actually don't do it I was thinking about going to an independent garage going forward.

TBH I was not impressed by Merc service in Dartford and Bromley so far.

My experience with MB Brooklands has so far been exemplary. And they have a viewing area if you want to watch your car being serviced.

That said, I have also used specialists Wayne Gates and PCS, and I can't fault them either.

Accoeding to the Mercedes MyService online quote tool suggests that a 2016 CLA45 AMG with 34,000 miles requires am A-service, plus air filter and rear axle oil change.

London dealerships: £490
Birmingham dealerships: £374

there are rogue garages and good garages both MB and indy....

Mine is a B service this time it is a 2016 FL model purchased in 11/2016, the gearbox oil was changed last year. rear axle I've not seen quoted anywhere, not from merc or any independent garage. My only assumption is that gearbox and rear axle are done as one single job?

Indeed, I just need to find a good indy as I'm a bit reluctant to go to a dealership

So, to confirm, what needs doing for your C117 is:

Service B
Air Filter
Brake Fluid
Spark Plugs

Is this correct?

A Service Care Plan would be £1104 for two services, or £46 per month for 2 years.

Pop your details in here and get a price from your local dealer and try Birmingham for a comparison.

I'm a bit confused with Pestige / MSL, there are 3 websites
https://www.prestigecarservice.co.uk/

It doesn't look like to be the same company
The first link is PCS based in Horndean nr Portsmouth. Nothing to do with MSL although an excellent indi.
The 2nd link is MSL Performance Birmingham, their main branch.
The third link is also a branch of MSL combined with Prestige Performance, their Southern branch. Check their phone# is the same as one I linked earlier in Post#6.

There is also an MSL in Bradford, so 3 branches of MSL all offering the same services.

Also engine oil and oil filter

Hmm, it is interesting

£100 difference between london and bham

I got a quote from prestige in portsmouth, £500 all in, I guess I'll go with them as A service next year would be £300. It seems they like what they do from what I've heard in the forums, that makes me feel more comfortable with the idea.
