Issues with my new CLK430

Hi all,

I bought a 1999 facelift CLK430 a couple of weeks ago.

After driving it about have discovered some issues, I'd like to hear what you think, are these normal faults for an 11 year old car.

1. Drivers window catches on the top door seal when closing the door, have to lower the window then raise it to reseat the glass.

2 Steering feels strange as if it wants to tramline all the time.

3. Rear suspension creaks when driving over sleeping policemen.

4. Speedtronic fault, when switching on the cruise control a warning comes up to visit the workshop!

5. Vibrates at high speed feels like the propshaft.

Apart from all this its a nice car, covered in snow at the moment didn't fancy driving a powerful rear wheel drive car in this weather.

I've been terrifying myself in mine all day !

Tyres are due to be replaced , but tyre shop are waiting for delivery , hence you can imagine how careful i am being.

What size wheels / tyres does it have on it ?

Tramlining is most probably tyres. Check they are similar make, tread depth and pressure. The bigger the wheels/lower the tyre profile the worse it will be.
Suspension likely to be bushes.
Cruise will need someone with STAR to identify the problem.

1) Is common
2+5) Are likely to be related....ie tracking needs doing
3) A lot of cars creak when they go over sleeping policemen as the springs stretch and this is made worse in cold weather.
4) Cruise Control issue....no idea, could be a simple re-set...best get it into a Merc Specialist so that they can hook up the car to the diagnostics.

As far as I know they are standard 17'', tyres do look like they are cheapies

One more thing I just thought about, the throttle pedal feels stiff especially at the top of its travel, its quite frightening when I'm attempting to park in a tight spot.
