hi

following an unhelpful dealer, i've decided to order my parts for the SL restoration from

www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk

does anyone have any comments to make on;

(1) delivery times
(2) items being in/out of stock
(3) returns policy

my main concern is that part numbers are are valid on the official subscribed EPC and are listed on the inchcape site with prices, my main dealer reckons the part numbers dont exist.

i'm also going to order some body panels - if they arrive dented etc how is their returns policy? will i end up paying huge postage charges to return it?

cheers for any advice - am i better off just hassiling my dealer more?

thanks

Derek

Ive not had any dealings myself but i am thinking of using them myself. While looking at new pedals in the interior section a few members used this company and were very positive about them.

I've used them plenty of times - they sent a few wrong things before but were apologetic and sent the correct items out refunding my postage to return them.

Why not call them - they are a main dealer themselves after all.

i think i will. atleast they should recognise the part numbers or atleast see what i can see.

main reason i havnt used them before is because its easy to just go to the dealer but looks like the usual parts guy i deal with has left and an unhelpful guy has replaced him :(

My experience so far has been all good. They packaged their items well. However I have no experience of ordering body panels which might be quite costly to get delivered. They are a helpful bunch and if the part nos are not on their website give them a phone to check things out.

I've used them for a few bits and bobs, all arrived in good condition and in good time.

I haven't used them , so cannot comment .

However , I know that a lot of the guys over on the 'other' forum order parts for older cars from Jacksons of Poole ( Now MB Bournemouth , Tel 01202 666330 ) who specialise in parts for 'Classic' models . Mervyn Wright is the contact there and is reputedly a mine of information .

I always found Western in Edinburgh most helpful with parts for my older cars , likewise MB Glasgow these days , and Glen Henderson in Ayr who stock a lot of parts for 70s and 80s models as they were main dealers back then but became service agents only since the changes in recent years .

Which dealer did you find 'less than helpful' ? It would be handy to know so that I can avoid using them .

We use Edinburgh as traders (McSmarts in Airdrie) and generally can't fault them.

I had this with my R107 wipers.. Inchcape emailed me to say items would be a bit longer than normal... few weeks later I had wiper blades sitting on my desk which other dealers said were NLA.

I ordered parts from Inchcape on a sunday night & they were delivered tuesday morning, all present & correct.

I've used them several times. They did send me completely the wrong part once - someone else's order - but they sorted it out quickly.

I used to use Mervyn when I had my 107 - very nice guy - been there over 20 years IIRC.

Used them a couple of times. Tried to get through last week on phone but always busy so emailed. Replied same day and even supplied part No's with prices so easy to compare with other suppliers. Prices seem a little lower with next day delivery.

I've used Inchcape a couple of times and they've been great - the stuff is well wrapped and I normally get the items within 48 hours of ordering (as long as its in stock).

If you can't find the part in the online catalogue, then email them. I've always found that they've replied within an hour or two.

Yes very helpful.

Willobrae Road one is the unhelpful dealer. thats maybe a bit unfair as usually the parts guy there (Billy?) is very good and has always helped and found and ordered parts without any problems.

it was a different guy who i spoke to before who was pretty unhelpful after he found out it wasnt a "current model" and sounded a bit shocked when i said it was for a 1985 car.

i'm away for a week on friday but will give them another try before i go elsewhere as maybe the usual parts guy was just on holiday or soemthing.

You could use us as an alternative? We can really send body panels out as they WILL end up being damaged, but we offer discounts on MB parts....

I just wish there was so much choice when I had my W123 :(
