It's a bit of a head vs. heart situation for a replacement. Quite a bit of choice out there for my budget.
I've been really lucky with the 2.5-16. I can recall many cars that I desired when I purchased it that were well out of my price range. Where as the 2.5-16 has been a good investment, I would have lost thousands on some of the other cars. Many of those cars are now cheaper than what I sold my car for.
I might try a V8 AMG of some description to chalk one of the list (I've thought about them many times in the past, but never got round to owning one). Slightly put off by the rust issue mainly, but I do have my doubts as to how well they'd hold their money. Perhaps I could try one for 6-12 months or so, if I buy sensibly it shouldn't be too costly an excercise considering my minimal mileage etc.
Not as much fun to drive, but an R129 SL500 wouldn't be a bad bet if I could find one that I liked for sensible money. Shouldn't really lose any cash from now on I wouldn't have thought - they've got to be about rock bottom IMHO. Plus sides being that they've got the classic MB 80's build quality and styling, and they don't tend to rust in the same way as most of the 90s-00s MBs
I've got a slight itch for an older aircooled 911. I blame a guy that I work with who got me interested a while back. The minimal-zero depreciation should outweigh some of the running costs, and considering I do so little mileage it doesn't seem like a totally unrealistic option. Nice classic which I would like to experience - probably not everyone's cup of tea. I think that would be more of a long-term prospect hence I'm considering trying a couple of cars out before I'm tied in.
Maybe a 500E/E500 if a nice one appeared and was well priced?
Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed
