Good evening - I'm a proud, prouddd owner of a 2017 E-220 Cab W213, my first Mercedes and think it's brilliant - apart from the rattle. My passenger A-pillar trim vibrates against the window, I want to address this but need to remove the interior trim. Please can someone help advise how to do this?

Kind regards

Matthew

Thank you for those messages and I have indeed thought of that AND try it but its been back three times to two different dealers ad they can't fault it - even after I showed them a video of it.

Trim removal tools are cheap to buy and make such jobs easy as well as minimising the chances of damage. There are plenty of videos on Youtube showing trim removal.

Remember that the curtain airbags may well be disturbed by removing this trim so the car battery must be disconnected for at least 15 minutes before working on the area and not reconnected until you have finished working. With this in mind I would still be tempted to insist on a dealer fix and escalate it to MB UK if they cannot.

DSM10000 - good point well made. I'm to make it go away and last time they had it I lost it for a week and was still there on my drive home!! I'll take it back, give them another chance and then take the issue up with UK.

I'd be wary of fannying about with it if you are to leave any evidence that you have 'had a go'.

You don't define the problem . Is the window vibration side to side or forward and back when it strikes the A pillar. Mercedes usually details very precisely exactly how to adjust the door and window of cabriolets in their WIS [ workshop information system] making extensive use of shims and clearance gauges. There two snags to this- it takes time and experience to develop a feel for what's right making it almost an art rather than science. It may be beyond many otherwise skilled body techs without experience of the particular model. The other distinct possibility is bodyflex- always a hazard with cabriolets meaning a door/window setting is knocked off after a few miles despite being OK after fettling. Mercedes do have specific re-inforcing/stiffening to counteract this but how successfull it is in the longer term is an unknown quantity.

The basic suspension and steering setups are shared with the coupe, with structural compromises endemic to convertibles addressed with “X” bracing under the engine bay, and “V” bracing under the rear end. Stronger door sills, reinforced cross-members beneath the rear seats, and a reinforced rear cowl further serve stiffen the E-Class cabriolet whilst leaving a trunk pass-through, just like the C-class cabrio.

Maybe a possible way of putting pressure on MB would be drive an example that didn't exhibit this characteristic and record that for comparison. Continued pressure on the supplying dealer is probably your best bet. Eventually MB UK may send one of their top body experts if you keep complaining. GOOD LUCK

Rattles drive me mad so I feel for you, my current car is rattle free but previously I had an E300 Hybrid (2014) which developed a rattle after the head lining was dropped to repair GPS antenna.

The rattle was from the same place as yours and was backwards and forwards to dealership for rectification.

In the end I had a go myself.

Removing the pillar on the 212 was easy there is one I believe torx screw behind the plastic trim in the pillar, unscrew this remove and some gentle pulling away and upwards pulled it from 2 clips which remain in situ.

I then applied some self adhesive felt on the back of the A pillar.

Job done and felt pads I cannot imagine would cause an issue with airbags.

Not sure if the 213 is the same but I cannot think it would be much different.

I had a E250 cab for 4 years and love it. Strongly recommend you push with the dealer and escalate if not sorted, there is no reason why it should get sorted.
