Itunes again

Hi. I somehow have managed to acquire about 4 coppies of each track in my Itunes library, some of varying format.

Does anyone know of any software that will delete duplicate files (even with different file extensions) - it's playing havoc with my Ipod file transfer!

Remember there is a view duplicates option from the dropdown off the toolbar.

I could and may have to but it would take a few hours - and if there is software out there that would be better!

Under "file" it says "show duplicates".

I used fix tunes. This will not only find duplicates but it will also do a great job in identifying tracks, correctly name them and download the album artwork.. tracks that iTunes couldnt recognise.

I think for the first 10,000 tracks its free but I found the software so good that I ended up purchasing the full version.

if you show duplicates, it will obviously show duplicates, but if you hide them, the item will still be in your itunes library, just not shown.
so it will have to be a manual deletion, by my reckoning, i may be wrong.....

Pretty sure you need to prune out your duplicates manually.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I keep seemingly identical tunes in my library anyway.

It shouldnt take too long manually, remember you can highlight multiple random order tracks instead of 1 at a time by holding down Ctrl when you select them.

It only took me 5mins or so when I last did it.

can i say iTunes is uttter **** ?

just get a half decent phone and then a memory card and all your albums are drag n drop and all look like they are on your desktop

i hate itunes, it would be good if it were not so overly complicated

i get the same sound quality and none of the hassle with my nokia 6220 & a 8gb card

That had me grinning ... I can imagine telling the wife "we are changing the car 'cos I need one with a SD card slot"......she would reply "Why not just change the Hifi."...

get a stero with a usb/sd slot

decent ones are £150 ish

The stereo in my car is very heavily integrated into the systems. I don't think it would be possible to change it.

Could do it in the Renault, but we already have the option of USB stick. But whenever I try and convert Itunes to MP3's it all goes wrong - hence all the duplicate files and while I am now just keeping it simple!
