I have had my 2003 CLK320 for just short of 3 years now and have been coveting the SL's [R230] for a while. This yearning was compounded when a colleague bought a 2004 SL500 and on discovering my admiration for the marque, insisted on parking next to me whenever he could.

So my resistance has finally crumbled and I went to view three vehicles with varying mileage. To my surprise the low mileage pristine example had service gaps (nothing for 2 years and 20k) even though it was advertised as FSH and a questionable replacement of a single shock (I always thought these should be replaced in pairs). So walked away.

So the vehicle I had lined up as a baseline benchmark (high mileage 140k) actually turned out to be quite good, full service and drove as well as the other two, nice and tight. I contacted the MB specialist who had been servicing the vehicle for 5 years and they were very reassuring stating it was maintained regardless of cost.

So yep I went for it :bannana: nice jasper blue SL will soon be on the drive :D (have to wait for plate transfer).

I would appreciate any advice on ownership of the SL's from you guys who have owned or currently own.

Can anyone on the forum give details of the original options with the SL350?

The vin number is: WDB2304672F075989

Thanks in advance any help much appreciated.

Congrulations ! I'm looking at a similar car to take to France and Italy in the summer and welcome any buying tips. Look forward to seeing pictures.

I was hoping to stretch to the 500 or 55 if only for the sound as I miss my E55

Marc

You have a lovely CLS there smillion.

I love the sound of the v8's however it was the ABC suspension which put me off, on cars the age I was looking at' some age related wear and tear / repairs are inevitable and the suspension acording to the guys on here was expensive to fix. I belive both v6 and v8 engines are bullet proof if maintained and therefore we are down to the sl roof leaks and general repairs.

Check for rust on the inside of the rear wheel arches and any sign of water in the boot or white water marks, I took everything out of the boot to get a good look and lifted off the foam on the left hand side to check the pumps etc.

Full service history is vital IMHO, luckily I could ring the indie from the garage forecourt before I comited to buying.

After all that, fingers crossed. My first job will be a full major service at my local indie (Pro-tech) and then a full detailing of engine bay and interior. Then put some more miles on her

Couple of pics.

Well spotted, I would say no.

These are pics from the advert, I will be picking the car up in a couple of weeks, pending number plate transfer from my CLK so no pics of my own just yet.

The car had no issues with the bonnet on inspection.

Cool Dave, good luck and enjoy it!
