A new rival for the Mercedes C class unveiled. The Jaguar XE

Due to be built at the Range Rover Solihull plant with 4 cylinder Ingenium engines built in Wolverhampton its chief technical advantage will be its iQ all alloy riveted/bonded chassis construction

This will be an exciting model for many Jaguar fans (including me). I just hope the design is something similar to the XF... Imho the previous X-Type was a beauty (ignoring the build quality), especially the facelift model with that 3L V6 petrol engine...sweet.

rivet and bonding there's a recipe for disaster, haven't jaguar been there before with the 308? Using mild steel rivets on an alloy body, genius of an idea  and something a high school student wouldn't do let alone Englands finest motor engineers :D lets hope they have leaned their lesson.

That said I do have a soft spot for Jags and all the ones I've driven with the exception of the XF perform and drive well :thumb:

I like Jags too. My lasting impression of a recent tour of the production facility (apart from the time they all knocked off) was the 50 gallon drum of glue at each assembly station.

It's a pity the German high school students Mercedes let loose on the poorly prepped bodies in white during the past few decades hadn't "been there before" with the rusty vehicles we were brought up on during the 50's, 60's and 70's.

:D

I too like Jags and they are much better cars than people think. I had an XJ8 (X350) for a couple of years and it never missed a beat and I have never been in a car that had such a well put together and comfortable quiet interior. Sure it's a bit old fashioned, but that was part of its charm.

That said I never liked the X type and wonder if the XE is going to be another one of those!

I worked on the X400 project and was lucky enough to have a 3.0litre Sport manual to drive.
Retro looks were a mistake.
It only shared 14 parts with the Mondeo.
Drove very well.
