So he's the thing.

I'm experiencing a slight vibration through the steering wheel at high speed. So is it, Tracking or Wheel Alignment that needs looking at?

I ask because I've been to several places (Kwik Fit/Excel etc) and asked for my tracking to be done. They have then all looked at the car and said it needs a specialist. But then I noticed one of the engineers look at the back wheels before he made his verdict, which I thought was a bit funny.

So am I a total smeg head and got the Jargon mixed up.

Not too sure why he would look at the rear wheels and then make his verdict.

I dont think it needs tracking it might just need the whees balancing. Or if you get the vibration when braking it means the front discs are warped

Its more than likely just balancing... Tracking does have to be done by someone who has the equipment, and not many do..

Yeah looks like it just needs wheel balancing doing and go from there

It order to do the wheel balancing do they need to take the wheels off?

It probably is the balancing, i'd start there anyway as it is the cheaper option, I think they can do the balancing with the tyres on or off.

I've lost my locking nut key.......Hmmmmm. Just another issue.

Update

So I've managed to get the wheels off and last week they were balanced by Hawleys. However it still wasn't right so I took the car to Kwik-Fit and asked them to check every wheel. Every wheel was out by 5g. However the engineer said that these where very hard to get right as weights can only be allied to the inside of the alloyed wheel.

Here's the thing I'm still not happy. Vibration starts at about 40mph and continues to get noticeable worst as I increase speed. Taking the power off seems to reduce the vibration but its still there. Does this signify its the back wheels as its rear wheel drive?

I'm having the trackers done by laser on Tuesday as I've read it could be down to that. What do you guy thinks. As I'm not sure if that's just throwing money away and the car need to go to MB for a proper diag.
