Java updates

I'm having a clear out of unnecessary programs/files etc on my laptop, and have several updates and two SE Runtime Environments of Java. Do they build on one another, or can I uninstall the older versions?

Any help/advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

OK to just get rid of the old ones (and makes you less vulnerable).

Don't know why they don't smarten their act up.

Just that - it's old, not patched to protect against latest attacks and so more vulnerable.
