JayEmm on that white import E55

Yes, I started that one.

Interesting review by this guy.

He obviously doesn't know MB couldn't fit the 7 speed to them as they made too much torque / power.

Still unchanged on the colour - I think it looks better in white than I thought it would but still not the best colour.

I do like the wheels though and even the duplex number plates actually which make it obviously an import.

That one does appear to be well-looked-after but too strong on the money plus you have the issue of rust if you use it as anything other than a fine weather car.

I think it looks great in white John.

I think the rust problem only affects cars built in Japan. I doubt it would affect Euro cars exported to Japan.

I’ll look forward to watching that. I briefly spoke to the seller a good few months ago about a nice C55 estate he had, which unfortunately (for me) has now sold. I’d happily take that e55 off his hands though...for a figure within my budget!

I love a bit of scant... but I prefer the tall brunette in the red dress from some of Acid's meets. :D She is the same or not far off my height I think Chris_A said. Unless that is the same one. :dk:

And why the hell record a video about an E55 and then play music which drowns out the engine sound for most of it!

I'd leave my old 55 in TG as I loved that colour. Black for me would surpass it. It's only because both are quite rare that I would consider a, for me, secondary colour.

I think though, as much as the "E55K" rose-tinted specs fit well on my face and I love looking through them, I wouldn't want to get another E55K. The sound was the most intoxicating, as well as the power delivery, but I have a way more comfortable car for me now and it's within 0.1s to 62 of the E55K... not that I use it because it's heavier and a lot less angry. Then all the other things that annoyed me about the 55 would still be there (particularly if I bought mine back). (So things like it stank with no CATs, things were corroding like wheel arches and brake lines, the car was getting older and more and more things needed replacing which was annoying, the tech was outdated and it had occasional random gremlins which were annoying!).

That chapter in my life is closed. The only AMG I would consider now is a W213 E63S once it hits a sensible money!:D

I had no idea they made them out there. I presumed they were all imported to Japan from oorup or wherever else they are made.

.

That will probably be the final AMG I will own...........once its no longer silly money for me.
But I'll need to drive one first. Dave never bonded with his after his W212, even though its a better car (I think)

I may not bond with it either although I didn't with one like your's - so maybe you have more of a chance of bonding with it than I do!

It's funny how one can take to a car and another can't?
We both had, and really enjoyed an E55 for a long time (6+ yrs for me), yet after only 7 weeks with this E63 I wouldn't go back to an E55 again.

Yes, 5.5 years exactly for me.

We must have liked different aspects of them I guess.

The E55K for me was a softer GT. I prefer that as an everyday proposition to a harder racing car. It still handled incredibly well (especially for the kind of journeys I do to work now and did at my last place - and even round a made up track at Elvington) but the brutal performance when required mixed with a comfortable quietish (absence of road noise and crap-sounding engine) cruiser the rest of the time was ideal for me.

The E63 is much closer to a BMW M5 I suspect (which are both closer to a Nissan GT-R). Well, I am presuming that from comparing the 212 E63 to the 211 E55.

If I were to scratch the itch with a Nissan GT-R, it would be a second car.

More likely I will go for a W213.

More likely still, I wont get either and just be content in the knowledge I will never lose my licence in future and save a bloody fortune. :D

^ I agree, the E63 Biturbo is a "harder" car than the E55. Both capable of brutal, instant acceleration , but feeling different at the same time.
The E55 is a softer car, more comfortable even with a classic interior and timeless exterior looks. But,,,,,,,,,,,its dated now and showing its age stepping to a 211 from a 212.
Just like the 213 is to the 212, the 212 is a massive upgrade internally to the 211 IMO. It looks modern.

I don't regret a minute with the 55, but I'm finding this biturbo so much fun and despite naysayers (are you listening Tom:D) they sound great in S+ on the downshift from speed.
Going to see Acid this weekend to sort out some more volume and a little mapping;) so the drive back should be fun.

Yes, the E55 interior did feel dated when I last saw one a year ago too.

It's surprising just how much more modern cars date olders ones, which themselves were amazing a few years ago. I guess it's coming up to 9 years ago I bought mine, and that has gone so quick that this process creeps up much faster than it used to!

This is certainly one reason why I wouldn't buy old cars, including ones I've owned before.

Some stuff is best left as memories.

Keep us posted on the mods... I still have an interest in the facelift 212 5.5s and 218 5.5s even if I am not interesting in pursuing ownership of either.

Rog.
We never bought a 213 as it was not as “nice “ a car as the 212 which in any guise is a bloody good car. It was rough and didn’t want to be tootled about. You’ve in my opinion got the best Eclass AMG they’ve done. The C63 we did buy is rough as a badgers backside but a V8 in a “small” car is a great combo. We’ll wait for the 1000 Bhp electric AMG when it comes ....

^ Interesting take on the W213. The second member to say he isn't too enamoured with it.

Perhaps I should take up Mercedes offer of a test drive they keep offering me. It will have to be in an E63 though.

Disappointing to hear they are not great.

Got to be worth a free go in one though!

Could this be a better buy than the white import - Auto Trader logo

Annoying that the write-up is so short. You're trying to sell an older car at quite a high price to a tiny tiny market - wow me for god sake!!!

In the 40’s now John......is that sensible enough? My CLS is going in spring so will add one of these to the list of possible replacements

I wouldn't want to spend that much truth be told.

The 14 plate E63 I looked at in early 2017 was £33k/34k I think - that's the sort of level I would be thinking so not far off.

That’s the sweet spot where depreciation slows down nicely. Mid 30’s would be good, but reckon it’ll be another 12 months on the 213 E63.
