Hi all

I have recently purchased a 16 plate B200. Noticed that when you're creeping along slow traffic as you often do in London in a low gear (esp 1st and 2nd) and you take your foot off the accelerator, the car jerks like an SOB like I'm a 18 year old newbie manual driver. Is this the expected trait of the 7 speed dual clutch?! Frankly speaking its annoying as hell. Anyone else have the same experience? Thanks in advance.

I have never driven a B class but feel pretty sure that is wrong, take it to a dealership for resetting or software update.

I have the 9g box and it's extremely smooth.

Dual clutches can be jerky at low speed as they don't have a torque converter. Best to be safe and get an initial inspection on it as suggested above.

Thanks guys. I rang them up and they said it would need to be adjusted. Two guys. One driving and one 'configuring'. I mean really????? Abit disappointed to be quite honest.

That is correct, I had a new steering column module fitted to my previous car and whilst one drives the other sets the gear changes or such like.

All too complicated for me.

Haha ok cool. Don't care what they do. Just fix it!! Starting to get whiplash!

An update for those who may be interested. Brought it back to merc. They said it was 'calibrated'. No difference whatsoever. Will be taking it to another merc. Need it sorted! Not keen on the continued rodeo ride!!

I had a 15 plate courtesy car for a couple of weeks, it wasn't quite as smooth as I'm used to, but attributed that to it being a little diesel engine.

It certainly didn't cause anything I'd describe as jerky in creeping traffic...

Aren't the boxes adaptive and learn the driving styles of owners ?

If so, get to a clear road and drive it like you stole it for a while.

There is a problem with that as its hard to steal a car in London traffic. I need more practise.

Jokes asides I believe you're right. I drive no differently then I did in my 5 series. It appears the Merc struggles to maintain a smooth ride in 1st and 2nd gear. Not so much jerking on changes but rather feels like a manual car in the lower gears. Maybe its meant to? All I know is that I'm in traffic alot. And starting to get whiplash.

The engine could be improved on refinement but my issue is more with the transmission. Not so much a truck sounding Merc.

Try a Gearbox Reset, it has been Posted on the A Class Forum and worked on my A220, so I think it may work on the B Class:

Turn the Ignition Key to Position 2 – Dash lights illuminate etc

Press the Throttle pedal to the floor for 5 seconds

Keeping the Throttle pedal pressed down turn Key back to 0 but DON’T remove it

Now take your foot off the Throttle

Sit for 2 Minutes and do nothing in the Car
(Don’t push any buttons, open any doors etc)

Go for an Unjerky Drive! :D

Hi

Yeah I in fact did this last night!!! but I only drove 30 mins or so thereafter. I am not sure if it did anything. Any idea how long it takes to "learn" before the ECU says THIS IS IT!

As I said it worked on my A Class, did you still get the Kangaroo Effect on your 30 Min Trip?

Yes I did but less. But to be fair, it was less start stop traffic which is when I would be on the kangaroo more....

my a220 stopped going in to gear. it said consult garage. I got AA to load it on lorry and take it to Mercedes sinclairs. they took off starter motor and seen swarf. they said I need new gearbox. £5000 for new box and £1600 to remove and refit box. Am I being screwed over here? they haven't taken off the gearbox yet.

Welcome.
