Replaced water pump and thermostat today.

Stripped eveything down and could see tell tell signs of the pump leaking, but sure it was only the gasket that was at fault. As I had purchased the pump (genuine MB) I thought it was foolish not to replace it :).

The thermostat was a doddle after removing the oil filter top housing.

after all re-assembled I took it for a run to make sure all air was out of the system and to get it fully upto temp. Seems to warm up a little faster and also the gauge reads a bit hotter.

Gauge before: 78-79
Guage after : 84

so it seems that the thermostat needed doing.

All in all I am happy as both seemed to have been the original ones, some 184k miles ago :bannana:

How much for the stat and where from??

The stat is main dealers and cost £40.26, after my usual 10% discount

did you use any sealant or just a gasket on the thermostat body ?

It comes with a rubber gasket that sit in a cutout around the housing

Thanks very much :thumb:
