Always live in the hope that MB parts prices are fair when comparing comparable quality - rightly or wrongly, expect the dealership to be a little bit more expensive than the motor factors.

So, let us hear of some of your surprises.............

Alternator that fits a typical 5 year at very least C, CLS, E, Sprinter Class..........................................£992 (inc VAT).

Power steering pump approx £420 from MB against £81 from Autodoc. Reman using original MB body.

Wanted a new glovebox key cover for w211 but had to step back. Dealers wanted £80 last year, now its £120. Below is someone on eBay selling

Most car manufacturers offer genuine refurbished parts, e.g. (from the US):

Prices of manufacturer's refarb parts may be more competitive against other refrab/reman parts, than when comparing with the cost of new parts.

It was ONLY £682 (inc VAT) if went this route

That's 32% less than the price of the new part. How much is it from the likes of BBA Renan?

You won't believe this one, Nissan Juke, windscreen washer reservoir rubber cap, £39.78Spare Cap.jpg

My windscreen was starting to get scratched and pitted after almost 200k miles. Some jokers wanted £1,200 whereas I am sure the insurers will have a much lower contribution price as part of the insurance.

Sorry, but your post makes no sense. Of course a part will be cheaper to you if someone else pays for it... but what exactly are you trying to say here?

Ignition controller for an M104.98x engine: price quote from MB at Angouleme, 2300€. Bought one in Bochum for 1100€. Price estimate in the UK at the time: £950.

Consider yourselves fortunate that you don't live in France!
