Or MC motors Ravenstone?(widening my search for an ml,would appreciate any feedback folks).

A garage in Bradford

Sorry I have never heard of a good garage in the Bradford area. I bought my Mercedes however from yorkshire exclusive cars in fear and trepidation. I can honestly say the best buying experience I have ever had with after sales car beyond anything Ive had before when I needed a few things putting right. It might be worth giving him a shout as he can sometimes source what you're after.

Thanks for the reply, another member on here has links in the area & is going to ask around for me,i have another car lined up closer to home in case the Bradford ones a no goer, cheers anyway,i'll try the dealer you mentioned if i have no joy.

Ive just googled them and theres a small chance I may be driving past them tomorrow. If I do Ill stop off and have a look for you, get the feel of the place and look at the car. I dont really know anything about them so if there's anything specific you want me to pay closer attention to just ask.

Thats very kind of you(don't go out of your way),i spoke with the dealer earlier(father/son set up),he answered all my questions but it's not the same as seeing the car,i would just like to know the condition in/out/alloys before making a 400+ mile roundtrip(he said very good & i have the service history/previous owner/mot info),thanks again,Steve.

Im getting a lift past the place to help my brother in law pick something up. Im giving half my day for him so it'll be fine to stop off as we are literally driving straight past it. It'll be fun and I'll have a look as if I was buying it. Doubt Ill do a test drive but I can have a look in it and maybe have a play with the electrics as well as get a feel for the place which often says a lot about who you are buying from.

Have you seen the service history and are happy with it or should I look at that as well?

I haven't seen the service history but if you could run your eyes over it if you manage to pop in there & have a look over the car i would be really gratefull:).

No worries. Do you know of specific things to check with the ML?

I asked questions/searched the net & can't really find any ml/v6 diesel specific things other than the usual mb things(full service history/atf/filter changes at 40k miles),hope you don't like it so much that your tempted by one!

Found out the servicing on this ml has been done with the same independant mb specialist from new called pretige car care in Bradford that are partnered with Jones motor company who have the car for sale-anyone know of them/feedback please?

Went to see the car. I didnt have time to check the electrics but had a good look around it, under it and in it. Ill do a write up with a few photos later as I need to go out now.

The servicing was done by prestige car care(mercedes independant specialist) in Bradford(i think they are a partnership of the dealers jones motors),anyone know if they have a good reputation in that area?

First impressions were good. The place was well kept and tidy, as though the dealer took pride in what he had. The car itself looked very well kept. Looking down the panels I couldnt see any dents, door dings or scratches. Having said that it had just been out for a drive so the lower half was a bit dirty from the roads so couldnt be 100% that there wasnt anything hidden but I had no reason to suspect there was as the rest of it was very good.

Looking underneath the car everything appeared to be in good condition and I doubt it had ever been taken off road. The bonnet had quite a few swirl marks though and a few stone chips but nothing of major significance or any worse than mine which is of a similar age.

The tyres had very good tread depth but were cheap Nangkangs. The brake discs will need replacing soon but that again is just pot luck with buying second hand cars. Couldnt see the pads so cant comment on those. The rear tints were cheap and poorly done with creases and lines that do not befit a car of this class and would need replacing. The interior all looked well kept and clean although it was dark inside so it wasnt completely clear to see. There were some marks lower down on the centre console where the paint had rubbed off - see the picture below. The lower rear window trims were bubbling and the lacquer in one area had started to come off. These appear to be plastic so I dont think there are any rust issues, probably just new ones required from a dealer - again, see pictures below.

Unfortunately I didnt have time to get the keys and check all the electrics but I will say though that the front passenger seat operated electronically without a key but the drivers side didnt. I dont know if this is normal or if it would operate with the ignition on but it seemed a little odd.

I hope this hasnt come over negatively as I was looking for issues and this is all I found. Overall for a car of this age and miles it looks pretty decent. The dealer came down to speak to me and pointed out the issues I mentioned so have to commend him for that as I didnt raise them with him. He then took me upstair to go through the paper work. The HPI was clear and I have taken a photo of the service history and the most recent work done (highlighting how cheap the tyres were). The first service done was at 29,000miles but this is done on the ASYST system so should be ok. I noticed something in the booklet saying the first service shouldnt exceed 25,000miles but I would definitely check with MBUK and dont take my word for it as I only glanced at it quickly.

We concluded with a handshake and he asked if the next time you phoned him if you would mention my name (Nick) - I think he was a bit confused as to who I was and what I was doing.

I hope this helps. Of course a test drive would offer far more insight but hopefully this gives you a slightly better idea of what you are looking at. I would like to add that I am in no way an expert and this is from my personal opinion on what I have seen and can not guarantee that I have not missed anything.

Thanks so much for looking at/taking photos & posting an in depth report of what you found(i really appreciate it as a 400+ mile roundtrip with only dealer pictures info to go on is patchy to say the least). In fairness to the dealer what you describe/comment on about the cars overall appearance is prity much as he described to me on the phone. The only dissapointing thing is the history as in the advert it clearly says full mercedes + specialist but as your pics confirm there have only been 2 services both done by a local specialist & the first of which was at 27k miles(for that ml it should be 15,500/annualy).I also noticed the service book is a duplicate & whilst there my be a perfectly good explanation it is a little off putting. It's a shame about the history as if it were complete & at the correct mileages i would have come up to view/test drive & if i was happy do a deal on it,once again, thanks very much for your time & honest appraisal it's much appreciated & saved me what could have been a wasted journey, cheers Nick.

After looking at the history again i see the brake fluid has never been changed(worrying),at over 4 years old it should have been done twice(every 2 years) & the 1st service was done at 3 years(car registered september 2007),what a shame someone could spend £40k when new then skimp on maintenance:confused:

Thats what I thought. In reporting I just wanted to state the facts for you to make up your own mind but its odd that someone would spend that much on a car and then scrimp tyres, servicing - Ive rarely seen a secondhand car that hasnt been dealer serviced for the first 3 years, and on tinting - it looked like a home made job. It makes you question what else have they scrimped on.

I completely missed those big DUPLICATE letters, lol. The dealer said that you would be able to phone up the specialist to verify the history. With the ASSYST servicing I didnt think they were governed by miles/age. I bought brand new Viano a few years ago and never had it serviced in the first 2 1/2 years as the 'spanner' said I still had 10,000miles left and that was at 20,000miles. I phoned up the dealer to make sure and he said that what the computer says is true.
