Just been Laid off - Decided to setup a car detailing business

Hopefully I will my wheels sorted in the next couple of weeks, then I’ll be a customer! Looking forward to it! I don’t have Facebook though, so is it ok to book through here? Thanks 👍🏻
 
Is it easier to detail a car under cover or outside?
 
Had some goodies arrive today, Bilt Hamber regular clay bar & Korrosol, another Farecla G3 clay mitt, a Rupes yellow Medium wool polishing pad, Sonax cutmax, a Spear & Jackson pressure washer with snow foam bottle, a paint depth gauge as used by Sandro @ Car Craft Auto Detailing, and i am just about to order a little Karcher wet & dry Vac called the WD2, the reviews say its worth a try and it costs next to nothing.

Got a few other other surprises on the way

I can't see your name as a member on the Detailing World forum - you are aware of it, I assume? Massive source of information etc. and discounts available from most of the big names. Subscribe as a Supporter and you could find opportunities - I'm not sure of the rules on touting for business so you would have to check their rules and regulations, but it's a way of getting your name known even if you can only refer to your business in your signature.

Remember to keep all your receipts for everything you buy towards your business, mobile phone bills, work clothes, fuel for your van, etc etc. Also remember you can claim for "part use" of your home as a business address and office,
saving on your tax bill is always a good result at the end of the year
Also start a spreadsheet (or useSage/quickbooks) and keep it filled in and up to date, it is very difficult to remember what you did 9 months ago lol

Those are some really good points.

I use FreeAgent, which is free is you sign up to a NatWest or RBS business account. Banking is also free for around 18 months when I signed up.
 
One thing I’d like to see as a customer is a detailer who can also fix kerbed wheels or get them fully repainted to a very high standard. Perhaps partnering with a specialist and offering a discount as part of the detailing job. Stone chips on bodywork, callipers and arranging respray of panels are also tempting. If there’s a detailer who can bring the whole car back to new then that would be awesome. Just food for thought... :)

As others have suggested i would consider "Linking" up with other businesses to your standard.

i.e
Smart Repair
PDR (Paint-less Dent Removal)
Bodyshop
Wheel Refurbs

The way i see it is, if someones getting there pride and joy detailed, they are likely to want it looking perfect. I've found it quite common when a detail-er is going over an initial inspection of the vehicle to find things you (customer)probably hadn't see.


Also DW is a good shout and if you haven't already invest in a DI Water Vessel!
