just bought a 230 w115

no way!! this IS a suprise. was this a common option? im thinking it'll be slow and give me a low mpg in return though right?

The 4Matic system probably Isn't working anymore from what I have read it wasn't very reliable.

so it can be switched off and on then? or do you have to remove a drive shaft etc etc?

they look hard to use those new wii's, my mistake.

all i can find is that they made 4matic in 1990 and onwards with a gap in 1994 for a few years.

nothing before that. would anyone here have a production run of the figures for 1976?

i dont collect the car until saturday so i cant even check for myself. i assume it'll be clear as day when i get under the car

must be a mistake on the sellers part then. maybe he got the automatic box confused with the 4 matic term. i certainly wouldnt choose a 4wd car so its good news

thanks to all that helped much appreciated
Dan

Just as much chance of the seller being as badly informed as the buyer!

It doesn't sound like it is bad news to tell you I have also read the 4Matic system is often failed on older cars. Presume that leaves it RWD and carrying a little excess weight.

The W124 4matic had the most stupid front spring design that I've ever seen.

The W210 is the same. It works.

The whole setup of Mercedes cars using inboard springs is poor, it makes for a poor 2nd class lever system that requires very strong spring rates, which might be why they break so frequently.

At times you might be so glad to have a 4-Matic with the traction and extra clearance - boreens in Leitrim, or in sands down to Doha.
