1999 CLK 320 Elegance
Hi, new member to this forum - but I've been lurking for a while. Just picked up my new merc - a 1999 320 CLK. Its dark blue with 65k on the clock and fsh. Waiting for a new numberplate - C24 CLK - which I found for what I thought was an amazing £69 (plus transfer fee). All the other CLK one were hundreds, but this one was hidden in the bargain basement :bannana:

Been polishing and cleaning - and looking forward to doing the pedal mods and fitting a self-dimming mirror that I have seen on the forum...

Cheers !

Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your new purchase and the Modding.

Welcome to the forum. Car sounds great and we look forward to seeing pictures in the gallery :)

Hi Attic

Thanks for the comments...

I'll post some pics when I've done something interesting with it....

So far, I've changed the stereo to a Pinoneer DEH-P7700, plus the iPod unit, so now I have my iPod controlled through the stereo in the car.

I've also hard wired in a Garmin i3 GPS. A great little unit for £199! Taken leads from the stereo loom, stepped the voltage down to 5V, and now a a very tidy install...

Hey mate and from one newbie to another, welcome... enjoy the car, you will find some of the guys (and the lassy) in here are kewl and will help out when they can.

Very interested in the GPS fitting. Got the same GPS III Plus from the days i used to do desert driving/survival instruction in the middle east. Dont ask long story but good laugh. Any pics ??? Interested too in the iPod thingy ,,, my sons have em, im a bit too old for them but interested all the same.

GPS wiring

On the GPS front - it comes with a cigarette socket adapter, which steps the voltage down to 5V. It also comes with a usb cable to download from the pc.

So, I bought a voltdropper from carnetix CNX-P5V at www.carnetix.com

I used those little blue wire joining clips from Halfords and connected a permanent 12V, ignition switched 12V and ground at the input side. And then I found an extra usb cable at home, chopped the end off and connected up the red and black wires to the 5V and 0V output side.

Then it was just a case of running the wires behind the fascia under the steering wheel, behind the fuse box and behind the pillar to come out at the windscreeen.

Very neat, no wires showing, and the devices powers off when the ignition is off.

The iPod thing is just a box that connects to the Pioneer headunit (if you have a cd changer it connects to that input, and the cd changer goes onto another output on the box). It has the white iPod cable and connector. So iPod is charged and the music comes through the stereo. The interface is not fantastic, but it is OK. You can always start to play on iPod then connect it and it works fine.
