Just Checking how many miles you get to a tank

Okay the car did 538 miles from full to empty, I only know it was near empty because the car took 64.2 litres of fuel I believe I have a 66 litre tank.

So I've reset the odometer lets see what I get. I don't see it being much more than 550 miles. The car is used for local and A road driving.

Is 38mpg right for a c220 cdi auto or should I be expecting more?

Yes, you should expect more. Or less. Or about the same. I don't really think we can tell you, but if your driving style means you use the brakes a lot then you could use less fuel by improving your anticipation.

Its funny how people look at miles to a tank but don't consider the cost of filling the tank..

a customer recently bought a car and was delighted that the new car did 400 miles to the tank compared to his old car which only did 300.. never mind the fact that the tank was 50% larger.

I sometimes do such a low mileage that it's more a question of tanks per month. If there are no big trips out of town I can get up to 1.5 months per tank.

The wife's Clio has been known to do three months per tank.

Or 400 tanks per 100 years if you prefer the continental way of doing things.

Simply find a friend with exactly the same model, spec and age. Make sure the vehicles have the same load, fill them both up to the brim with fuel and check all the tyre pressures. Go for a big drive, side-by-side at exactly the same speed for a sustained period. Fill them both up again and compare receipts.

Only then will you have your answer.

When I sold my 2008 C220cdi (Pre Blue Efficiency) it had averaged an exact 42.71mpg over 40000miles. This was mixed motoring and almost bang on the MB claimed combined figure for the car.
