Wanna do mine now? :p

Very nice

Graeme, might have missed it, but did you paint the bottom of the bumpers and beneath the sill, or was it like that when you got it?

Could it be a face lift thing like the W202 C Class and R170 SLK? I'm sure the early versions were black silled and bumpers whereas later models got everthing down the bottom colour coded.

The facelift CLKs did get those parts colour-coded Steve, but the pre-facelift models, like mine and Graeme's, came with the lower bumper mouldings and the lower sills unpainted black plastic.

I think the painted parts look much better :)

Is mine not 'part facelift'?
Looking at the front bumper, it curves up to the bonnet.
Not sure about W208's, but on the W210's, that means a facelift front.(My W210 is pre f/l cos it doesn't come up).

Looks nice by the way Graeme !! :bannana:

No, pretty sure there was no 'part facelift'. Pre-facelift CLKs had the side indicator in the wing and black lower bumpers and sills.

Facelift CLKs got indicators in the wing mirrors, painted lower bumpers and sills, Tipfunction gearbox for autos. Obviously, there were more improvements, but they were the major ones.

My front is the same as yours, except the lower part of the bumper is black and the bumper insert is a darker grey ... like so:

That detailing Graeme is good enough to Concorse it at a Autoglym show,

And that is talking from experience, at concorsing A Historic car,at major international shows.WELL DONE. :bannana:

Nice looking car.

It looks like your car has been fitted with face lifted bumpers of they have been painted in the body colour prior to you getting the vehicle.

I ordered a brand new CLK in May 1999 with delivery due 30th September. The car was to be a pre face lift however mine was a July build car which meant it was the very first batch of face-lifts! A result for me as I had no idea at the time they were about to face lift the car. I investigated this quite thoroughly at the time and found that there was no part-facelift only the full face lift so to speak. As others have said, the facelift has the indicators in the mirrors, steer wheel controls, tiptronic, revised boot lid and front spoiler.
The consequence of my order was that I got one of the very very rare (and very very underpowered) CLK200's that was a face lift but not a Kompressor.

Your car looks very good as it is. If I recall correctly, SilverSaloon went quite a long way down the path of face lifting his CLK.

That's the way to do it - luvverly!!!
BTW, are the crosshead screws each side of the driving lights all evenly aligned? :D
...if the job's worth doing... :p

I changed them for Allen bolts to make it easier to line up ;)

Firstly, thats a really good job, the car looks mint!

Now in terms of face-lift, I know what you mean about the front bumper curving up, all clk's are like this my '97 clk200 was the same.
The pre-face-lift had black lower bumpers and side sills. The centre of the bumpers and the side mouldings were also a different colour to the rest of the car.

I have seen many clks that have been updated in the same way as yours. In actual fact there are some differences, the side sills are different, and the face-lift ones have a much thinner rubber seal between the sill-cover and the body. The lower part to the rear bumper is that same, so painting it will look like a newer one. The front bumper is different, the lower part was modified when face-lifted, the lower part can be bought on its own and fitted to the bumper.

But most people wouldnt notice the difference and at the end of the day it looks a million bucks!

lovely job chuck - looks stunning have a narna :bannana:
