After market compressors are around £300 for some models, plus £100 for fitting. Depending upon model I would GUESS a main dealer will be double that. Can’t be more specific I’m afraid.

I had a compressor replaced by the main dealer for £400 in around 2018, but that was when I received fairly substantial discounts so not sure what the real cost would have been.

Don't know anything about your car but.... I do know that such errors can be driven not by the physical issue such as a broken pump, but by sensor issues and electronic glitches.

And at times like this, a phone call to PCS across the Solent is probably the quickest route to resolve.

Blimey...What a palava...3 hours...no mobilo on the Isle of Wight...sent RAC...who did some diagnostics...no action from air pump...wheels touching the arches inside....he arranged for a local recovery company...car too low to go on trailer...a few bits of wood and it went on ok...off to Esplanade for repair....Mercedes don't do hire cars to the Isle of Wight...Esplanade did not have any free cars....yet the forecourt is full LOL...After a few calls to Mercedes they have arranged through the RAC to deliver me a like for like car in 2 hours...We live in hope....can anyone start a crowd funding page to cover the repair costs LOL

The hire cars for MB are done via Europcar - surely they have a presence on IoW?

RAC operate Mercedes breakdown and unless you request it or drop lucky then it’s an RAC branded patrol which attends. The Mercedes branded patrols are still the RAC albeit with Mercedes specific training and common parts on board.

Getting a like for like courtesy car whilst yours is repaired doesn’t sound so bad even if it took a few hours to sort. I guess the question is could you have got the car recovered and courtesy car on your drive faster if you had to pay? Maybe a little, but then you’d have to pay quite a lottle.

Just got the repair quote :
Please find the prices for the repairs to your Mercedes C220..This is with Goodwill as I'm their favorite customer LOL

Replace air suspension compressor & valve block: £1019.02
Replace air suspension compressor: £751.18 if valve block not required
Carry out air con recharge: £79.00 to be discounted to £39.50

Hopefully we will not need the valve block so that it’s the cheaper option.

My £800 guess wasn’t too bad. Although I note that it’s with goodwill. You will be able to do it for less aftermarket but will require shopping around, re recovery etc.

If the compressor has gone at 32 grand I would make sure they check for air leaks, with even a small leak it is possible for the compressor to wear itself out

I had an RAC `Mercedes Specialist ,when I broke down at work.

He told me I needed a new ECU,at approx £1500.He then suggested I try to get a s/h one and he gave me a Company name.

I got a local auto electrical specialist to recover it to his facility. It started up for him, first time!!!

New starter motor-job done!

Strange that a recovery technician would diagnose such a fault. Cars with major faults are recovered for diagnostics and repair at the main dealer.

An incorrect roadside diagnosis plus a big potential bill plus a mate who can do it for much less equals high risk of dodgy backhander in my humble opinion.

The compressor is approx £390 from Mercedes aftermarket £300 its the labour that costs as got to pay for the beautiful showroom LOL
That’s not bad at all. Hopefully it’s fixed soon and back on the road. :)

Hold on everyone....

This is a full service history Mercedes Benz , owned from new with just thirty two thousand miles on the clock.

Are we not all missing something here ??

If the car is older than three years without an extended warranty then the OP will be on his own , financially.

Is a pump classed as a "consumable" ??

K

^^If that is the case it is A shocking indictment of the crap MB are putting out there . OP would have been better off buying a Hyundai/Kia.

Yeh, but then he'd be driving round in a Hyundai/Kia. No thanks 😊
