My wife had to go on a training course a few weeks ago... with her Airline. During the training they were told they could no longer make announcements beginning Ladies and Gentlement... presumably on the very slight off-chance someone who was Either , Neither or both might be offended.
She was a bit perplexed, especially as no one has complained or been offended in the last 30 years.

How could we resolve the gender identity issue where in a minority of cases it's not apparent.

It's only an issue with a tiny minority of cases anyway, so how about just f*****g ignoring it? "Sh!t happens, you pratt, to all of us not just to you, so live with it and move on like the rest of us. Nobody has a right never to be offended, and that includes you."
If “forced to hire a woman” means recruit any female - but must only a female - then it sounds like a combination of illegal practice and hiring the wrong person, neither of which inspire confidence in those members of management involved.

If it's positive discrimination it's woke, so it's not discrimination. That said, it's a very blunt instrument to try to resolve a genuine and complex problem to which nobody has yet come up with a satisfactory solution. If I had one, I'd be a Management Consultant specialising in HR, and very wealthy...

That was her question to the "Trainers" they told her to begin the announcement without a preamble... seems a bit rude to me..
Good morning/ afternoon, evening everyone was my suggestion.

( and Keep it down in the cheap seats! )

In order to save money for the Shareholders of Halifax, I have come up with a what Gemma's Badge SHOULD make her (if I'm allowed to use that one) have included, in order to make it "Future Proof":

GEMMA
"I," "you," "he," "she," "it," "we," "they," "them," "us," "him," "her," "his," "hers," "its," "theirs," "our," "your."

What criteria would I be most likely to use when evaluating the effectiveness of a bank:

a) Not going bust at massive cost to the taxpayer, or...
b) Putting badges with pronouns on their employees

Difficult choice. Not.

I suspect Halifax may have created their very own "Ratner" moment with this response on social media yesterday to a customer who questioned the value of their policy:
We strive for inclusion, equality and quite simply, in doing what’s right. If you disagree with our values, you’re welcome to close your account. ^AndyM
Still, at least they've managed to score some important Woke Points amongst a minority on the internet.

You missed off a question mark at the end

I believe that threads like this are a really insightful demonstration of how our views and attitudes towards change naturally evolve over time. Topics like EVs, EU, sustainability, and diversity highlight it best.

Was there ever a generation who didn’t think that they invented sex, drugs and swearing in their teens, and start thinking that the world is changing for the worst by the time they reach late middle age?

It’s what generally happens with every generation, albeit with exceptions I’m sure.

The influence of the younger generations and their ability to effect change increases over time, and that of older generations reduce at the same rate, leading to the feeing of disconnect.

Young people don’t have a legacy of experience to draw upon - or be held back by - and so they adapt quickly. The older we get that wealth of experience can lead us to want to hold on to that legacy.

This is not a criticism of anyone. It’s just natural a process we all go through to varying degrees. Feel free to disagree, but we’re all slowly turning into our Moms and Dads, and our children will do the same.

Oh yes it is. Behind you...

"Using your pronouns in signatures and social media biographies tells everyone that you are not going to assume their gender."

No it doesn't; it tells them you're woke. It tells them you're earnest, well-meaning, self-obsessed and have not the slightest sense of proportion.

It's a sad comment on the society we are becoming. There are children dying of starvation in Africa, and a war going on in Ukraine, and we worry about this sort of sh!t?

Forced to hire any female or that particular female?

If “forced to hire a woman” means recruit any female - but must only a female - then it sounds like a combination of illegal practice and hiring the wrong person, neither of which inspire confidence in those members of management involved.

Had they hired a different female it could have been a completely different story. Hiring a man who is not well placed for the job would have ended similarly. Being female has absolutely nothing to do with their ability to do the job.

How could shareholders of a publicly listed company force a business to recruit a female?

We think of shareholders as individuals however, many are big pension funds and other corporate investors.
