Just installed my Pioneer 6600 touchscreen DVD and navigation head unit. Installed the navigation unit in the boot along with the cd changer.
I bunged in Origin B2 which i pulled out of my last motor.
I was originally going to fit a Command unit but i really wanted a DVD player and the touchscreen is a bonus. The naviagtion unit is awesome, even tells you the nearest petrol station etc. The DVD player is even better! And above that i bought it CHEAP :D !

Looks sweet. Can I ask how is it when not being able to access the climate controls? I was considering the Pioneer AVIC X1 which is black and suits the black maple finish, but the screen over the controls I think might be irritating.

Any problems or are you someone who rarely adjust the heating anyway?

Don't really adjust the climate control that often!
There is a button on the unit that you press and it slides the screen halfway for 5-10 secs so you can adjust the climate control and then it pops back up itself. I only will have it up when i'm using the navigation etc.
I was going to go for the MB Comand but after i used the Pioneer there was no going back. They are lovely units and are very simple to use and the touchscreen is a bonus.
And i don't keep my cars for long so this way i can pull it out with no probs before i sell ;)

Ditto - looks great. I am in the process of fitting a Pioneer AV/Sat Nav system in a W202 (AVX-P7300DVD head unit, AVM-P8000R AV expansion unit, GEX-P7300TVP TV tuner unit, oldish model AVIC sat nav, CDX-P670 CD changer...)

With regards to the 'heating' system controls, I found that in this car, and like in the previous W202, the 'climate' control system (even with the 'rotary' settings) works perfectly well. Ie, once you have set a comfortable temperature (eg, 20-25c) you can leave it to keep the cabin temperature spot on.

If the motorised screen is anything like my Pioneer or the Alpine screen that I used to have, you can open/close the screen at the press of a button. Not exactly the end of the world if you want to adjust the temperature. :)

HTH,

Will

2F2F?

I've recently had a Pioneer AVIC X1 fitted to my SLK and the screen sits over the heater controls. There is a button you press to drop the screen which I find useful. I actually bought it because I wanted a TV and DVD in my car, I was'nt really bothered about the sat nav.....now I've used it I wonder how I ever managed without

The other option and its one that i would personally prefer is to swap the stereo ISO position with the climate control ISO position. ;)

Would look pretty sweet :)

Might require some hacksaw work behind the slot though, the climate control panel is about 1/3 of the length of the headunit and some inner-dash parts might protrude where the headunit would sit. That's true in the W202 anyway.

I fitted the AVIC X-1 to my W202 TD Sport - also included a 6 CD Changer and DAB Tuner (I used a glass-mount arial)

All works great and the SATNAV is brilliant - especially the TMC - apart from some of the mapping.

My home address is not recognized (neither is it on Multimap) and the road has been there since 1999.

On my usual commute between Worcester and Reading I seem to be travelling cross-country at times when I should be on the A417 and A419 (and these road were upgraded some time ago)

Pioneer imform me that there is an upgrade DVD due in March (perhaps then I can find my way home?)

Has your Pioneer also got TMC?

My upgrade was done just after Christmas and it puts the icing on the cake.

Another plus with our Pioneer is the voice recognition. I cannot remember off-hand the command, but you just say the word, and the system automatically alters your route via the nearest petrol station.

'She that must be obeyed' likes both systems, but the Pioneer comes with an excellent added bonus of a back seat (stretcher) driver. :D :D

Good luck,
John

In order to use the voice command I'm being taught by a nice Pioneer lady who specialises in EFL - it doesn't undertand Manc!

Doesn't fit. First thing i tried to do! The pioneer unit is too deep and sticks out 3cm. So i left it where it is as i dodn't fancy butchering the car!
The unit does have voice recognition and TMC.

Check around the middle of the disk, if it's marked A then it's an old disk, B is new.....I've only just bought my unit and it came with an old disk.

Please I resume this old post because I'm actually interested on Pioneer Avic-x1R or to the new Alpine IVA310 (also 1 din unit but witout the navigation that I'll add after).
Please these are my question:

1) a part the problem of climate control of my W202 that I can by-pass with the "tiltable" feature of the monitor, I've also the T610 support bracket (that I bought to dashmount.uk.co you well know :) ) on the upper center vent, I'll be probably forced to move or modify a bit. But if the space of W202 is the same of the W210 as per the first photo of this tread may be it's not necessary: the phone support is arranged till the middle of the upper series of the centre push button. Does someone have a W202 photo with monitor full open? I searched already a bit but no found.

2) with the AVIC, considering the separate unit, where do you have installed it? If in the boot, do you have re-route a further radio antenna cable from the front consolle to the rear? Or is it possible to connect/access to the rear antenna amplifier (in the rear C pillar for the W202 I belive)

3) same of above for the speed sensor cable, beeing it on the ISO connection in the dash. Do you have splitted and extended to the separate unit?

4) about the rear light sensor do you connect to the gearbox or to the rear bulb cable (in the trunk)
as far the footbrake it's a pain to access to that area. A part the rules and security reason may I connect it to the ground or the a constant 12 source? But with this kind by-pass don't be a problem considering the unit will recognise the speed (by the speed sensor) but also the parking brake?

5) may I connect directly the direct 12V to both the direct AVIC supply and also the "under-key" supply?

6) does the GPS aerial will work if installed in the rear shelf with the sunshade opened? I've seen an old photo of Koolvin with the GPS aerial in teh first aid kit. I'd like to install mine below the rear speaker girll (no rear speaker installed).

I'm still confused and wondering to the Alpine, to delay the cost, before the unit and than the navigation (but Alpine unit is really too expensive  ).

I thank you sincerelly for all your help and I apologize for the avalanche of questions,

Hi :)

hey Guys, please

I know that my long post is quite boring but please at least some info if someone have had similar installation.

Thanks a lot

:)
