Hi guys, as title, picked up my C55 AMG this morning. Now my last Petrol car was a Integra Type R DC5, so the engine is a little different to say the least, hahahah.

First impressions are fantastic, I love it. Its done 95k miles, silver, 3 owners. 2 brand new tyres on front, and dealer got all 4 wheels done for me.

Got a few niggling things I want to sort though. First question is, headlights. Are cloudy headlights a common problem on these? Don't think its condensation as such, do those headlight kits actually work? I don't mind putting in the DIY if its going to look great.

Brakes. I'm not overly impressed with the brake pedal feel. Thinking about adding braided lines, anyone done this? it transformed my DC5 brakes, but obviously that's much lighter.

Exhaust definitely needs a polish on the tips, that will be done.

Its not come with any side badges, are they easy to source and fit on?

The parking brake seems to stick, and its doesn't seem to wont to release that easily, takes a good few goes, or you have to put ya foot under the pedal and pull upwards is this normal?

Lastly, I think id like to add the CLK grill with the star on it, and go flat badge on bonnet. Really don't like the mesh grill below it as well. Are there any nicer replacements out there. It does feel a bit flimsy, the whole front lip, thinking it might of had a bit of a bump.

Thanks guys, ill get some pics up asap.

Awesome car mate. What I like about the C55's is they are super rare.

I bought a headlight cleaning kit for my s Class, and they came out well. Not perfect, but definitely an improvement. You'll need a power drill for it, and the kits are usually sold with an attachment (a buffer type thing).

Good luck!

Congrats on your new car! A big change from the buzzy Type R's:D the torque on the V8 55's is immense.
As posted above, the headlight kits do work if you put in enough effort. The Meguairs Headlight restoration kit is about £20 from Halfrauds.

You can get the copy 5.5 AMG badges on eBay, but the dealer will want a few££ for the real thing.
Autosol and grade 00 wire wool will sort the exhaust tips.
You may have to lubricate the parking pawl which I believe is located under the rear passenger o/s seat. It's probably got stuck with lack of use.

Look forward to your pics:thumb:

Flip up rear seat bases, ease away the black sound deadening and unbolt the 3 bolts holding down the black plate in the middle of the car. Douse with wd40 or similar whilst someone works the parking brake up and down. Finish off with a coating of grease and you should be sorted.

I did my headlights with the 3M kit, and results were good.

Nice to see another C55 owner on here. One of the rarer AMG's around!

Hey all, thanks for kind words and advice, ill be popping Halfords for the kit tomorrow then.

Thank you Gazz, are there any guides, pics of this? Its a little daunting doing stuff like this on something you've just purchased.

I also need some locking wheels nuts. amazed it doesn't have any. I imagine to stay away from MB for these?

I haven't seen a guide on here, but there may be one... If not, take some pics and produce one yourself maybe? Great way for a newbie to gain a foothold!
Follow your nose, it's not a daunting prospect at all. Sanding your headlights flat is a much braver step!!

I'd love to see some pics of your new machine too!

Yeh ill do that Gazz, good idea. Cheers mate.

AMGeed if they will fit my car, ill take those, thanks. Don't think I can use PM yet, whats ya email.

Check your bolts are M14 X1.5x 28mm long. I know the eBay ones I linked say they fit a C Class 203 but its best to check. They do fit my E55.

I love these cars - if I can't stretch to a c63 in a year or two I will settle for one of these (and save oodles of cash)

We need pics !! What colour/spec ?

I had an Accord Type R before the merc. I did miss the sound on crossover for a couple of weeks but the sound of that V8 at 6000 RPM made up for it.

Hi There and welcome along ... enjoy the new car.

I have a CLK grill if you want one for nothing...? See the Merc Parts in the classifieds. I'm in West London.

Cheers,

W4 E63AMG.

Heheheh the only thing im missing from the Integra was the gearchange, the Merc is taking a bit of getting used to. The V8 more than makes up for anything the Honda had though, obviously heheheh and its much more comfortable.

Weather is stopping any photo's, ill get some up when I can.

Erm spec seems to be quite good from what little I no about them. Its got rear airbags, rear blind, the command thing, dark wood interior and lots more, ive got the original invoice from the original owner with the extra's on, spent a fair bit. Its quite interesting, the invoices for all services etc, are all to a massive mansion just outside of London, so it seems the first owner was rather well off lol.

Thanks for your offer E300, I replied to your thread.

And geed ill take those locking wheels nuts if you still have them, thanks.

Another few little questions please guys.

Im sure I read in the manual that you can turn off the feature where the seat moves back and the steering wheel moves up when you take the key out? ( I assume this is for easier access). How do you do it? its a bit annoying.

The car had a service at 94418 and its now at 96065 and its saying on the operating system that it needs an A service in 3500miles. I assume the garage that did the service forgot to reset this? Its only done 2k miles since July last year.....I wasn't going to service it till its due time wise in July, as I wont do the yearly mileage. Anything I can do?

I've read Mobil 1 0w-40 is the correct oil to use? The OS is saying it needs 1.5 Litres, so id best get a 5Litre tomorrow.

Any good merc specialists around Stafford or close to?

Thanks for reading.

It can be done on the cluster with the steering wheel buttons. Use the menu buttons to find "Settings" and Convenience sub menu. Press the up and down arrow buttons until you find Easy entry function. Using the + and - buttons you can change easy entry to off.

Assuming it was last serviced in July 2014 you should be OK to leave it until July this year. The way the services are worked out baffle me. I too don't do many more that 3-4k miles pa and the service intervals are constantly changing. A lot is dependant on the type of use the car gets. Lots of short town trips will bring the service interval closer than a regular long trip car.
You should be safe to reset the service indicator yourself. Instructions again in the user manual and loads of youtube videos.

1.5 litres is a lot to be adding. I'd add oil at .5 amounts and recheck. It's a lot easier to put more in than take it out;)
Can't help you with the indy, but I have used MSL Performance in Birmingham even though they are 160+ miles away for any mods.
Get your oil from Euro Car Parts online. Decent price for Mobil 1 at the moment.
Mobil Mobil 1 New Life 0W40 5ltr

I'm still a Honda owner although only as my race car play thing, owned a C55 and loved every minute of ownership, great car and very capable.
I had a few choice mods done to mine, mostly by the previous owner and one of the best was the Quaife ATB, something to think about when you are used to the car.
Can't compare the DC5 to the AMG not a fair comparison but for daily driving you'll struggle to beat a V8 and the torque.
Hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did, the cabin is a nice place to be come rain or shine.
