E-class due for service (65K'ish) and like everybody I'm watching the pennies

Assyst says a C service but when I tried to book it in the mechanic said it needed a B service as the last service was an A. Wrong! As I pointed out after digging the old bills out, the last TWO services were B. Makes you wonder if they were trying to up the potential?

Anyway, now booked for a C service on Thursday using my own 229.3 oil and including a courtesy car - £172.59. Here's the good bit - includes the MOT as three years is up :D They have even said they will give it a really good checking for any potential warranty work as that is due to end on 30th June.

By my reckoning that is approx £120 for a main dealer service - thought that was pretty good value and worthy of a positive mention for a MB dealer

<stands by for some cynic to tell me I woz robbed and that they will find tons of additional work :p >

That's good to know. I had my two cars serviced at MB of South Lakes (same Stratstone Group I believe) and I paid £150 each for both of them to have an A service (no extras) with me supplying the oil. I will try Preston next time!

Mentioning Ian Walkers name helps too :D

I'll try that next time! I was going to take the CLK to a main dealer for its MOT later this year, I might try Preston then! Last week I did ask MB Preston if they would assess the CLK for some warranty rust repairs, they don't do it, Blackpool do. So I popped into MB Blackpool last friday for the body shop to assess the rust, have to say I was underwelmed by the courtesy and helpfulness of the bodyshop staff!

Possible worth starting a new thread............it'll be interesting to hear how to get on with the rust warranty claim.

You may want to be careful of the free MOT. I took my C Class to MB Bridgend for a service and they said as it was nearly due to have an MOT they would do it for nothing. I agreed as you would, they phoned me and told me it needed some work doing to it and three new tyres, but advised i had four so they would all be new. After a asked them twice how much they said with the service it would be around £1,200.00 so i said just service the car for now and i'll look at the MOT when it was due. I paid for the service and collected the car. I think it was around the £250 for the service. I drove straight to the guy that MOT's my vans and asked him to look at it for me. He MOT'ed it for me and all it needed was two new tyres, £300.00. I would like to know what the other £650.00 pound was for. Ok another £300.00 for the other two tyres that didnt need changing and theres still £350.00 of work that didnt need doing. my wife reminded me when i got home that MB phoned me a month earlier offering me a free health check to get any work done on the car that needed doing before the warranty run out. They came back to me and said the car is in excellent condition and no work was needed. One month later i have a bill for £1,200.00. Not saying this will happen to you but if its expensive then it may pay to get if checked elsewhere.

best of luck jon. :thumb:

Just an update on this

Took car in and they called me to say that the ball joints need replacing (will be done next Tuesday under warranty! :thumb:) there was a chip in the windscreen (which I'll get fixed) and the front tyres were down to 2mm on the inside edge (went straight to National and got 2 Barums on at £160) They suggested that I postpone the MOT as whilst it was unlikely to fail there was an outside chance and of course I would be liable for the re-test fee - that is also booked in for next Tuesday

The only recommendation made in terms of work outside of the cost quoted was a full geometry check (£170 ) which given the type of tyre wear was I felt a reasonable suggestion. However, funds are very tight at the moment so I settled for tracking being done at National - turned out to be 3.5mm off. Would that account for the tyre wear?

So the report card for MB Preston would read Gold Star  C Service (own oil) including courtesy 09 A Class for the day and the MOT test = £172. No pressure to do additional work plus car was very well valeted

Nice to give praise where it is due!!!! :thumb:
