Just been to the bodyshop this morning to pick up SWMBO Puma, as you will recall we decided to get the paint done and kep the car another few years. Well I got quite a shock this morning, Firstly the car is immaculate they have done a stunning job, so well pleased with that.

But a guy was waiting for me and guess what he wants to buy the car, has offered me £10k no B/S and he's straight. I reckon this is probably about £2k over what the car is worth, but apparently he has been looking ages and not found what he wants so the Car is Ford Racing Puma only 500 made and now only 279 left, ford racing blue, 66,000 ,miles and totally mint and I mean mint like the day it left the factory no marks on the alloys nothing. Car may keep its value short term but I cant see it appreciating.

So brief chat with SWMBO and she has left it to me her rationale is that she only does 4,000 miles per year so if we sold the Puma bought something like a nice E class for £4k - £5k we could have a very nice cruise with the rest. If we did this the car would have cost us £0 depreciation in 5 years.

So folks a poll for your opinions and I'll discuss further with her this evening, I have till Monday to give the guy an answer so to be fair have left the car at the bodyshop so he can't accuse me of taking anything off it or changing it.

If like me you enjoy buying-selling-owning many different cars, then I'd recommend selling the Puma. It's a lovely car, but then again so are many other car which possibly you've not owned yet.

Variety is the spice of life........so some say.

BTW not sure I'd replace the Puma with an E-class......but then again it's not my money, so tell me to mind my own business ;)

Since she does low mileage what about a 'classic'? Honda CRX vti?

Or splash the whole £10k on a Mk1 Lotus Elise.
Mini Cooper S?
Porsche Boxster?

Definately sell - you will not get a better office and will regret not doing it

Is that £10K & you don't have to pay the paint bill?

Errr you have to ask ?

How's about £10K & no paint bill & the paint guy is the happy new owner of a mint Puma?

After all, he'd be doing the paint anyway if he'd bought it from you before the job was done & he is the main beneficiary.

Lovely cars the racing puma, but can't see them appreciating long term.

2k over top book? TAKE THE MONEY!

No I don't have to but its not my car to sell, its hers so its a no brainer to me but thought I'd just ask the question as its a fairly rare car but I can't see it appreciating in value

I think he has already factored that into his price £8k for a good racing Puma + the paint + a small premium is where I think the £10k came from, but I can try him for nothing.

My thoughts exactly theres a cople on Autotrader at £8k so I'd be happy

It's a nice car but I don't think it'll ever make big money unless you find someone who really wants one.

(You did get his phone number, didn't you?)

Cheers,

Ask for the world and see what you get. Worst he can say is "no thanks" & £10K is as good as it gets. If that's the case I'd take it. The world is full of more interesting cars costing sub £10K.

My guess is you'll settle somewhere in the middle.

No all opinions welcome and I really value the advice I get from this forum, I think she has secretly wanted an MB since the day I bought the CLK so she just said E class of the top of her head, as I think coming full circle and going back to selling the car came as a massive shock to her. Think dinner will be interesting this evening

£10k would buy her a nice little SLK or something.

Gotta be a better long term prospect than a Ford Puma :)
