The key still works. Just got a warning about replacing the battery today in the instrument cluster.

I was warned if I changed the battery the key may need to be re coded.

I can't find any info online about this and if it is required. Thankfully I have 2 original fobs.

If I change the battery on the key fob (which is still alive and working just low) is this ok or would need recoding.

Thanks for any advice. Hoofully people have tried and can tell me for sure.

Changed battery several times on my 2016 GLE all ok, no code required.

Anyone reading this thread take note on the gLE and poss other models the doors will open/lock as well as the tailgate but windows stop working when battery is low and no warning given. Changing battery resolves this. I often open the windows and tailgate in hot weather before i get into the car and clean wet/misted side windows so find the auto open close useful

I've changed loads of MB key batteries over several models over many years.
(Three of them in the last 3 months).
I've never heard of having to have the key re-coded.
Don't delay - Do change the key batteries.
The batteries last a long time, but when they near the end of their life, the voltage suddenly drops quite quickly and the key stops working.

MB change mine as part of the service 😁
