Hi asking this question for a friend of mine he has a problem with his key fob the problem is that when he goes to start the car the message key fob not detected comes up it doesn’t happen all of the time but when it does he just pulls out the stop start button and inserts the key I told him to change the key battery which he has done but sometimes it just keeps happening so does anybody have any clues

I found the batteries in the keyfob didn't last very long if you have keyless entry/go. No idea why.
I had to change the battery twice a year.

Where does he put the key when in the car? I’ve found that when mine is in the right hand pocket of a coat I am wearing it’s fine, but several times I’ve had it in a right (hand) trouser pocket and it’s not been detected, although it obviously unlocked the car door.

Hi I think he just sits it in the front cup holder when he sits in the car but I know he has put in a brand new battery

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday, promptly followed by the Alarm! 🫣 :dk:

When changing the battery did they remove the small paper disc that sits on one side of the battery?

It's a common thing to miss 👌😁

If you double click the lock button, it turns the key off. If you don't it just continues giving out a signal and running the battery down. The latest keys switch off automatically if they do not sense any movement.

I did that every night when the car was parked on my driveway. Still found I needed to change the batteries more frequently.

My friend got back to me again and says he mostly can start with the stop start button but a odd time he has to remove the spop start button and uses the key but the other day he said that when he went into the car to start it on the dash the key symbol came up saying change battery but he already done that I know he bought two from eBay maybe could be a bad batch unfortunately he has got another key to see if it done the same

My mistake That should have said he doesn’t have another key to see if it done the same

Hi all just a update on my friends key fob as I said before he put a new battery in it and was still having problems with it but the other day I found two new batteries that i get the last time I was at my local indi so we tried one of them and so far so good hopefully that’s sorted it out

There have been numerous reports of fake batteries from some sellers on online auction sites; personally, I'd only buy from reputable retailers.

@Bigdrew any update on this. I’m having the same issue with the wife’s car. I’ve replaced the batteries in both fobs (one of them twice) and still the same message showing on the dashboard.
In fact one of the keys won’t even open the doors, but will start the car when removing the keyless go button and inserting the key into the ignition.

Info: The car has just been imported into Cyprus and spent ~8 weeks on a ship/container/dock before it was started with a booster pack. Of course the battery was totally flat and depleted beyond repair. We now have a new main battery, the aux battery is showing to be fine as stop/start (unfortunately) and brake hold still work fine.

Do any members have any ideas or suggestions of the first thing to check regarding the fob batteries and one of the keys fobs not being recognised. This key was the main key when using the car in the UK and showed no signs of problems.

TIA.

Hi yes got mine sorted as I said before I bought a new battery on eBay but unfortunately it didn’t last long so about a week later i had my car booked into my Mercedes indi who was going to charge over my new grill so i just happened to mention it to him he said he would have a look so later on went to pick up the car and asked him if he looked at the key he said he put a new battery in it and i have had no problems with it after that so i can only think the batteries i bought which were not the cheap ones must have been dud or fakes

Ok thanks. I’ll maybe try again another couple of batteries. I did use Varta batteries, but didn’t think to check the date on the packaging.

You never know the battery I bought worked everything but I kept getting the message on the dash etc but no problems with the new one
