key is stuck in ignition

can someone please help

my key is stuck in the ignition and wont come out ,,,or turn on beyond the first stage when the srs light comes on.....

Is the car an automatic? If so make sure that the selector is in Park position and that the parking brake is applied. If you put your foot on the foot brake and turn the key back to off position it should come out. BTW I take it we are talking ELcode key(transponder) rather than a piece of metal with bits cut out!

The parking brake (aka hand brake) shouldn't affect key removal whether applied or not.

If you put your foot on the foot brake and turn the key back to off position it should come out.

Surely this is the wrong way round? I find that if I have my foot applying the foot brake then the key is trapped in the ignition until the foot brake is released. The foot brake must be applied to move the gear selector out of Park.

If it's the old style metal key then the tumblers in the barrel have colapsed by the sounds of it
