Hi all I've got a 2011 e350 coupe
I had a key failed about 2 months ago and got an auto electrician to sort it. He took the eis out and re done a new key. All was well until Monday when it stopped working. He came out and said the code on the key has been changed. He wrote a new key but the car kept on saying initialising key. He booted the key and then when plugged in nothing just a blank cluster no steering lock sound. So we suspected steering lock. Took that off and the motor is fine. When plugged back in and the new key removed the lock activates but doesn't come off when key inserted. The auto electrical says it just needs re coding.
But what would wipe the key. I went through some water on that night but nothing major. And the steering lock came on when I left to go shopping so the key was coded then.
Don't want to pay loads for the auto electrician and it to be something else.
Anything similar happened?
