Is this right?
Just had my Nav stolen and the van was locked and no alarm went off.
I think someone new it was there and came with a key, could this be done?

Are you sure it was locked? Any crock with a remote control jammer device can block your car from receiving the signal to lock and your car is unlocked. Happened to friends of mine last year.

A German infotainment magazine on TV made the test (I have a copy of that show on my computer if one is interested) how simple it is and how many people push the button while walking away from their car thinking it is locked.

That is one reason why I enabled the lock/unlock chirp sound on my ATA so I can be sure my car is locked.

The chirp is a good idea, it was looked for sure, and had re locked as the drivers door had not been opened, or I think so anyway.
The passenger door was left open so they made no noise in slamming it.
All other doors locked when found.

In the EIS there is 8 tracks to which 3 keys can be used to each, making a total of 24 keys.
But in the UK only one key is used per track, making a total of 8 keys. If a key is lost or broken and another one is ordered from MB then the next available key track is used, and the lost or broken one needs to be deleted from the EIS using Star Diagnosis.

To order a key you need to take along the Log book, Passport, proof of address and bring the car with you when you collect the new key to verify the car is yours and that the key works ok.

I know it's a bit old thread but it's the most relevant to my problem. Remote/plastic part of the key detached from metal part and disappeared. I'm not sure if it was lost on the street or inside the property. I can't find it.

Does MB Service remove the lost key information from the car system when you order a new key? I'm afraid that even when I get a new key someone can still use the lost one and steal the car.

It's 2012 SLK, if it matters.

Get on to an MB dealer straight away and have the lost key deleted, whoever has possession of that key can unlock and drive your car, all this depends on where you lost the remote key and who has it and if they can link it to your car.

If your car is under warranty then this may be covered, also check your car insurance to see if you are covered for lost keys, you are almost certainly obliged to inform your insurance company of this loss.

I already talked to the dealer about cost and procedure of getting a new key but I was hoping to find the lost/detached key. I think it's in the flat because I parked the car very close to the building, I had car key in the pocket (didn't remove it to lock the car, kept it in the pocket while doing it) and I didn't hear anything falling to the street (late night so very quiet).

I park the car away from home for the time being. If I was a thief I would just walk around to check which car opens with the key.

If MB could delete the lost key from the system it would be great otherwise I would have to keep the car away from home until end of lease.

I called police but no luck. Police station is quite far away from my place and no shops in the area. I think the car would be gone immediately if someone found the key because it was parked by the building.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow and see what they tell about removing the lost key from car system.

My friend cannot start his 1998 e200. He put the key in the ignition yesterday and turned on to the ign and as he did that the key ring caught in his sleeve and pulled out the inside on the key.
Now the key will not release the lock or do anything else for that matter.
He went to the local main dealer and ordered a new key €192. He was told that this key needs to be left in the key slot to program. A day later nothing is happening.
Before he goes any further he needs to establish if the main dealer has supplied a duff key.
The battery is fully charged.

Another key(the starting facility failed in this key some months ago) will remotely lock and unlock the car.

The new key will not do anything. It is hard to see if the red light is lighting as in the new key the led sits inside the key slot. The led lights when any of the buttons are pressed.
The main dealer says that the new key will not remotely unlock and lock until it programs through the key slot.
from reading some posts here some say otherwise.
Any informed opinions on who is right or wrong or what needs to be done.

The dealer should have told him how to reprogram the new key, ask them how.
Try putting key into ignition, turn key to position 2 (ignition on) then press any button once or maybe twice.
don’t know if that’s correct but try it anyway.
