keyless go entry problem w220 - help please

the keyless go card opens the car doors as expected, but i am unable to start the car without the key. no response when sitting in the car, applying brake pedal and pressing the switch on the gear knob. whats likely to be the problem?

Your card may need to be recoded at the dealer perhaps

im not sure if the battery needs to have power in the card?

Shouldn't the card have enough power if it opens doors? Someone had a broken KG start switch too.
