I have a '99 C43 and wanted to know if the new style key (with the panic button)can be programmed to my car.A friend of mine has the new style key(without the panic button)and that works fine on his '98 C43.

Thanks,i know a guy who runs his own workshop who worked for mercs for 20 years,he has all the star equitpment and can code the keys for me,i just have to order a "coding key" from mercedes £150 deposit refunded in full on return of it

I was under the impression that only Mercedes can supply keys coded for your car and cant be done by anyone else.
Please let is know if this is not the case.
Many would be very interested to get this confirmed.

I was charged about £107 for my key+coding etc last year. This £200 fee that is banded around is not for every model.

I too was under the impression that you could only get the key+coding through MB??

You have to take your licence, log book, utility bill and the car to the dealer ship you get the coding key from before and after coding

New key for CLK is £195 , its cheaper if you have the normal ( flip out ) key and not the solely electronic key

Be interested to hear if this is true with your mate specialeffects , because it goes against everything that has been written about the key situation.

I wonder if Gareth ( partsspecialist ) can shed any light ?

Yes ive recently learnt of this too... you get a blank key and an orange key... You get the £150 back once the orange key has been returned.

Hi all, the 'orange' key or 'green' key or even 'workshop' key is only used when coding a new EIS or electronic ignition switch. The bit that replaced the ignition barrell of old.

We have the EIS in stock. Then we order the workshop key, to chassis no and EIS no (about 20 digits printed down the side of the EIS).
The the workshop key comes from MB with all info in it to tie the car to the blank EIS switch.
And yes you get your money back for the workshop key.

As far as i know there is no way (in the UK) to get hold of blank keys, or to program/re program them.

Due to this MB's are the hardest car to get any security type items for.
Unless you have an inside man
(see movie gone in 60 sec's) :D
And look what happened to him. lol
