Just had the worst experience at a garage, namely Kwik Fit in Kendal after booking an interim service. Not only have they not changed the oil which I supplied, but after being told everything was ok apart from break pads getting low there was a broken piece of bodywork sitting on the passenger seat! So after finding that it was a piece from the front of the car so I question this with the technician and he said that it fell off during service and denied when asked if he had test driven the car as part of the service which is specified as needed in a service (which it is) and he said that the car had not left the property, so I stated that he had either taken the car for a drive and had a bump or he had not complied with the service regime stated by Kwik fit and a piece of bodywork fell off and he literally replied “SO WHAT”. When I start my car to leave I notice that the low fuel warning light is on and when I drop the car off it was 2 segments above this point which translates to about 20 miles sports mode on a B road or 60 miles cruising on the motorway. Apart from contacting head office which would lead to nowhere what can I do?

Kick up one almighty STINK with someone

Work out what recompense you actually want, then start with the manager of that particular KwikFit, then escalate from there if you feel it is warranted.

Did they not change the oil at all, or did they just use their own rather than yours? What was the 'piece of bodywork' you refer to?

Okay first and foremost Kwik Fit employ young people who don’t seem to really know what they’re doing, I’ve used them 3 times for servicing two out of the three have been a disaster!
First time they hadn’t done up the drain plug tightly and was leaking oil all the way home..
second time completed a service absolutely fine
Third time the service manager was rude and dismissive towards me and my questions so I took the car away, I wouldn’t let him touch it after that display of customer service.
I made an official complaint to customer services and they handled this reasonably well, perhaps you could aim something quite severe at this email address below

Frankly I am amazed that anyone uses Kwick Fit to service any vehicle. They may be OK fitting tyres but for what I have heard I wouldn't allow them near my MB or Land Rover.

You may want to save money by not using a franchisee, which I do. But I go to an "indy" who has a brilliant reputation and is a one make specialist.

NJSS

Should have added that Kwick fit have never been near my Mercedes, only the wife’s cars 😀

Back in the day I used to do my own oil/filter changes and I am aware of the difference between old used oil and brand new oil and my oil has not been changed which also means that the oil filter has not been replaced and the piece of bodywork was the cover for the headlamp washer system and it was smashed!

Leasing companies usually use Kwik-Fit for tyres and one of the benefits of opting out of my company car was that I would never have to go there again.

I’m surprised that they agreed to change oil that you had supplied.

I think maybe the OP joined in order to ask our advice on what to do next...
Personally, I would never use Kwik fit, even for tyres, they've had a bad reputation for years.

So you joined this forum today to badmouth Kwik Fit.

Is that about it?
Considering that what I have written is true then what’s the problem? and no I have been involved in other motor forums and have learned many tips and tricks from said forums so it’s a win win for me and you should not be affected by my post unless you are a Kwik fit employee or someone who loves to troll newbies and put them in their place and thus excerpt your seniority over them. This small minority has manifested itself on every forum I have ever taken time to read posts and then the replies after searching this or that and the amount of times someone said that they should have gone elsewhere to research their problem or make a comment like yours was disgusting considering that most people join the forum to get really experienced information on issues and shxt.

Why? They charge you the same amount and also save on oil. This is not a rare occurrence that owners supply their preferred oil.

On what model Mercedes did this happen to?

Why would Kwik Fit or any other fast fit service charge you for oil you supplied?
There will be a small labour charge, but that is all.

Don't make the same mistake of having your Mercedes serviced anywhere else other than an independent Mercedes specialist (indy).
With regard to your current problem, take the advice above about what you want from a settlement and push them very hard until you are satisfied.
It sounds like the service was skimped and then your car used for a joyride by a member of Kwik Fit. Words fail me.

Sounds like terrible service from Kwik Fit Kendal. Escalate your complaint to a higher level. Another poster has already provided a customer service e mail address.

Thank you for letting us know Kwik Fit Kendal are to be avoided.

Why did you go back after the first experience?

Have only ever used Kwik-Fit for A/C service and occasionally for tyres (only once for my own car I would add)

Most recent visit (tyres) left me dissatisfied - leading to a payment made to cover damage caused by negligence/incompetence on their part.

Can’t tar them all with the same brush, but as with any place you take your car to for work just be vigilant (take some quick photos on your phone before and after if appropriate)

Saved me a load of grief and £££s last time. Reassuring to know that sometimes you’re not paranoid either.
