L-plate motocyclists - a menace

The other day I had a just eat type swerving up the inside and outside trying to overtake me on a long but tight residential road. I got fed up and pulled in just as he tried to undertake me. Qué much swearing and threats of violence. Wasn't so brave once I pulled out my large metal bar / hook pallet puller that is conveniently placed just above my head in the cab :)

That or if they’re working as a delivery driver they need to pass full license. Doubt it’ll solve much as they’ll just keep driving the way they usually drive :(
Tbf drivers in london are nuts, I don’t think I’ve been anywhere else where people are this aggressive all the time. L plate scooters, e scooters, van drivers, ubers and posh yummy mummies in their oversized suvs with no passengers 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yup, 100%. Every time I go away to Scotland for a holiday and come back, I realise how aggressive everyone is and question myself why I’m still here. Then there’s the category of people that think it’s a race track and need to get there faster.

I drive and cycle in london, god knows why!

I commute by cycle as well and it’s not any better. Seasoned cyclists are just bloody reckless and play game of chicken. time to retire and move to countryside 🤣
Actually, don’t mention the countryside! They’re mad drivers too! Maybe it’s just the mad English that’s the issue 😂

The local yobs seem to have abandoned their very loud mopeds, unregistered off road bikes and quads and now fly about the place on electric bikes. At least they're quiet.

Called in to Sheffield Ikea on the way back from the lakes. The standard of driving was appalling. The main culprits were German makes, with by far the worst being 2 Mercedes with AMG badges.
I was glad to get back to tranquillity in Lincolnshire!

I am no killjoy and have had a lifetime of enjoying motorbikes but this phenomena of VERY loud 'L' plated bikes with puny amounts of power is a real turn off and alienates motorcyclists to the general public.

I (personally) first noticed this when the 'Chinese' Learner legal stuff started arriving on our shores, added to that they are 4 strokes when previously most moped/learner bikes were 2 stroke both giving out very different sound pressure. My Nephew bought one brand new . It looked the business as a Super Moto styled bike but frankly it was heavy, slow and dangerous to ride and VERY noisy. Pretty much all that a learner rider does not ned in their first bike.

What is the answer ? Noise is not tested during MOT . The tester can fail sound test on discretion , but do they ever ?

I Agree. Its insane how loud these 125's are. Zooming around at full throttle whilst our ears are bleeding. I agree also being a motorcyclist, but there has to be an ownus for the rider to ensure they are not being a nob and tar us all with the same brush.

It’s the same as with powerful cars. 1L straight piped engines make everyone hate people that have a more or less decent sounding car

Was driving through Glasgow City Center last night and the amount of delivery drivers using totally silent E- bikes / scooters was unbelievable , at least with the ICE equipped vehicles you have a chance to hear them.

Running red lights and riding without front or rear lights on these E bikes seem to be the norm now , wont be able to scoot aboot with broken legs , or worse, should they ignore one too many red lights.

This is becoming a big problem that no one is doing anything about. They undertake in cycle lanes and then beep at you for not letting them in…there should be an idiocy test for delivery drivers

Some good ones here.....much deeper too! Donuts the lot of them!

And again the problem is they are not identifiable by a reg plate unlike a car. still hopefully when they are in the back of the ambulance haven been scraped off the tarmac/side of a bus they will be carrying a donor card.

I work in healthcare and have seen the same person come in 2x times now; once with a smashed face (multiple plates in jaws, multiple teeth lost) and now with a shattered leg.

He still thinks the drivers are the bad ones 🤷🏼‍♀️

"Don's tin foil hat"

Nothing will be done because they will be a integral part of the greenies plan to de car cities

Piano wire across the road about 3 feet high.

Report them....leave it to the law. Pretty much any exhaust louder than stock on a bike is illegal these days and I bet they won't be E marked as is required ...
........if that doesn't work you could always resort to the more direct "piano wire stretched between two lamp posts" method!

Edit....beaten to it!
I can’t believe anyone can suggest such a thing!!

Nobody deserve such treatment, regardless of how loud the exhausts are.

You should be banned from the forum imho!!

Whilst I doubt anyone would actually resort to such measures, I can see how you would be driven to thinking about it.

I think about doing stuff like that a lot, I even talk about it too, but i'd never act on it as I don't fancy a custodial sentence. Doesn't mean its a crime to talk about it though - so calling for them to be banned is OTT don't you think?

I don't think they were serious suggestions, and I would never do such a thing. But something else could be tried that I have been guilty of:-

I confess that when we were kids, we would sometimes play what we called the Indian rope trick. One either side of the road, standing and straining as if they were pulling on an invisible rope. Car drivers would be alarmed and stop, at which point we ran off. Of course, it only worked at night when the drivers couldn't be sure there was no rope.
