Labour rates falling!

Do you think it'll apply to our stealers? :D
I think it already has. Inchcape Group dropped the price of their fixed price servicing about 9 or 10 months ago. As the majority of the price is labour, that implies that the rate has dropped.

MB of Glasgow were £109 an hour - I've got a nasty receipt to prove it.

Don't panic VAT will be up to 19 or 20% before long so that will offset the decrease.
Gord should be able to steer us away from any chance of deflation at least.

Nope...Well at least never 19% as it's too difficult to work out mentally...

That's why it's always in steps of whole or fractions of ten...;)
While that's been the way in the UK for as long as we've had VAT, the Germans and the French don't worry about such niceties. I'm sure HMRC will be happy to quote the German or French experience to justify why 19% or 23% or whatever won't be a problem to calculate

It makes sense to go in 2.5% leaps, but 17.5% won't recoup what has been missed over the last year, and 20% may be too bitter a pill to swallow to stand even a remote chance of re-election.

If I were a betting man I'd say the 2.5% leap will be abandonned this time, in favour of a 19% VAT rate.
