The Acer is dead!!!!
My partner wants a new laptop. It will mainly be used for email/surfing. and occasional music/film downloads but never online gaming. Any suggestions? TIA

How long did the acer live for?

Four years. I wiped the C drive and re-loaded using the back up disc about a year ago, then about two weeks ago. Yesterday I did the same and it only lasted about an hour before it all went pear shaped again.

Quite like Dells, pure because I have a DellPC that has never given a problem in five years I have owned it. Have a look here:

Look at the two Inspirons on the left hand side (£349 and £429) One has 3Gb RAM and 320Gb hard drive, the other has 4Gb and 500Gb hard. They have different processors too. The hard drive size doesn't both me too much as I have a 1Tb external drive for storage. Is the more expensive one worth the extra £80?

^link not working for me.

But just to add, if you're just surfing and not needing the laptop to be too portable then a 17.3" over a standard 15.6" might make viewing easier. For the same budget I'd take a slightly slower processor with 3-4GB RAM for the larger screen myself.

Ummmm...can't seem to get the link working either. Try dell.co.uk and click on laptops. It's the first two Insiron 1545s.
